I just bought a gold fish because nightmares were becoming a problem....the stupid recurring dreams I got from an opportunity card are about mirrors, not water. I would be happier if it were water because mirrors really do freak me out at night.

I have another friend who also spent a lot of time there, so I am very careful about that! I discovered you can buy some laudanum for an echo which will decrease your nightmares (at the cost of wounds), and the Cheerful Goldfish, once equipped, reduces nightmares by 1.

I have to skirt them at the moment, unfortunately, as my Ambition storyline is at a point where I need to discover the way to the Forgotten Quarter and the only effective way for me to do that is to decipher some scrawlings that give me nightmares. (Hence why I've got 3 Confession of Fears requests out right now!)

I always find it interesting to see what other people are up to. I also yoinked this idea for LJ and will probably be fiddling with that entry all night until I run out of actions. XD

If you need help with nightmares I'm free of them and don't mind being used as a talking partner, laudanum has sort of become my "thing", especially after hanging out with an heiress (storylet) who gave me some free :D

And it's taking longer than I expected -- the Cheerful Goldfish makes the Nightmares score act as if it's 1 lower, which means that when I have 4 on the character page, the game thinks I have 3 and the storylet to confess my fears doesn't pop up! XD I had to spend some actions on raising the nightmares (well, ok, on advancing the Ambition plot, really, so It's All Good) so that storylet would show up. :D

Ahhh! I considered getting the goldfish at one point, but by then I was already swigging laudanum like it was going out of fashion (again) so never bothered. XD

I routinely keep my nightmares at zero (or as low as possible) after coming perilously close to 8 (I wasn't sure I wanted to get carted off to the asylum!), so bug me about fears whenever they become too much of a problem. I only waste my actions on chatting up tomb-colony tourists otherwise! XD

Though if you want to fund your own laudanum addiction I found that I got a ton of moon pearls from taking notes of who goes in to the tattoo place (the watchful storylet in ladybones road) with a score from the low 20s and it's a lot easier to recover from the wounds than get the insights and then confess the fears. :D

If you click on your equipped Cheerful Goldfish on the Me page it will unequip it, bumping your Nightmares back up, and then you can reequip it later after confessing fears?

I got an Opportunity card that unlocked ... I forget when, but it was either Watchful or Dangerous hit some point. And then I had to collect 500 Whispered Secrets (I sold EVERYTHING but Appalling Secrets and converted them into Whispered Secrets).

I'm not sure why I wanted that third card in my hand so bad, but I got it. :)

Hi! I found you on a google search through "heart's desire" and "scrawled notes on the walls" because I am STUCK and cannot seem to even get to 1. How do you get that started? Every once in a while a card comes up that seems related, but I can't get the chain to start. Is that how it starts? Because I'm getting terribly frustrated!

It's been long enough that I can't remember for sure how I got there! The Scrawled Notes on the Walls seems to be stuck at 2, with no more to go. The other Heart's Desire thing seems to bop back and forth between locations - what have you done most recently on Heart's Desire? (And how far advanced are your four main stats? That might be another thing that it's waiting for you to build up.)
