Does anyone know of an indoor plant that thrives on neglect and not much sunlight and is not poisonous to cats? Our aloe, Stumpy, has been exiled to the garden room because the cats won't stop eating him, and the general consensus is that aloe is Bad for Cats.

I had a wandering jew plant that needed very little care. The cats (well one of them) did eat him sometimes, but he was non-toxic.
Eventually due to Mali, I had to get rid of all my plants. She used to carry my bamboo stem around in her mouth. In other news, that kills bamboo very quickly :)

Sansevieria, or Mother-in-law's tongue. You almost can't kill it. And it's spiky enough that I think it would deter feline nomming.

I've also had Dieffenbachia and Pothos indoors, and never had problems with the cats /eating/ them. Mostly they just try to poop in the litter box.

Spider plants? I love them and they are hard to kill. Safe for cats, too, I believe.

African violets don't need a lot of light. And I found a list of non-toxic plants (http://www.cfa.org/articles/plants-non-toxic.html) when I was checking.

Yeah, if you want the cat to eat the plant, then spider plants are a great choice. Also, they do best when root-bound (so it's fine if you don't re-pot often) and they like to dry out between waterings (although only just, or the leaves turn yellow). Sunlight may be the only problem, because they do like light, but they'll probably do fine with artificial lights.

Oohh yes! My roomie had Mother-In-Law's Tongue in undergrad...and I just remembered it was even there because it required NO ATTENTION. Also the cats left it alone...
