I shouldn't feel too bad for myself: long research has revealed that fact that Kubo Tite himself screws up Renji's tattoos on occasion.

Yup. I spent some time earlier today staring at a Renji pic, asking myself how I'd gotten the tattoos around his arms so wrong, and then had the bright idea to search for more pictures, and realized that THE MANGAKA SCREWED UP!! Phew! I don't have to redo the tattoos!

^^; I guess it's probably common. Natsuki Takaya was prone to leaving Hatsuharu's tattoo off entirely occasionally. (Usually in single panels, not whole scenes, which almost seems stranger.)

I suspect there is an assistant whose entire job, whenever shirtless Renji appears, is shifted to Tattoo Duty. (Normal duties: bankai speedlines; using the Flood tool to fill Soul Society kimono with black over and over and over.)

I held a volume of Aria up to the screen and can totally see Akari rowing over to visit from Neo-Venezia. :D
