First entry!

Our first entry into the AutoShoujo Cover Contest has been submitted!

Oh, man, it's going to be tough to judge the entries, I can tell already!

My Mechanical Summer
Hello! Sailor MANIA
The Melancholy of Snow
Rainy Shinigami Cherry
Midnight Soul Academy
Antique Long-Lost Delivery Service
California Ballroom Summer*
Good Morning, Earth Mystery **
Yakitate! Watercolor-Tinted Boyfriend
Androgynous Mysterious Curry***
Let's Go! Heavenly Chronicles
Maximum Spicy Thief ****
Eerie Shinigami Agents

* A guy visiting his divorced father in California for the summer gets roped into taking a ballroom-dancing course by his sister, who promptly breaks her leg and can't go to class. The course fees are non-refundable, so he's stuck taking the course, perhaps with her dorky friend. The wide variety of people he meets in this class and their lives, experiences, and problems open him up to a wider world by the time he has to leave.

** I have no earthly idea but I'd buy a manga based on that title alone! XD

*** About a curry that has some ... special properties. XD (Shades of Anthy's curry in Utena!)

**** Specializes in stealing super-rare exceptionally hot peppers?

Maximum Spicy Thief ran in Cheese! or maybe Petit Comics -- one of the spicier older shoujo or josei magazines. Unfortunately, it's written by a Miho Obana/Wataru Yoshizumi wanabe who's nowhere near as good a writer or illustrator (though she does facial expressions better than Yoshizumi -- not that that's hard), so the result is kinda like a bad mashup of Partner and Spicy Pink -- with added sex.

Let's Go! Heavenly Chronicles - Genki girl who is (what else) enthusiastic about starting her high school experience discovers that through a misreading of the kanji of her name she has been admitted to a school for angels and demons. (Think Love Monster meets Angel Diary.) I was disappointed, as I was hoping it would be a school for kami, or at least focused a little more on Japanese folklore, but it picked up by the second volume and I enjoyed it enough to finish. Not brill, but it didn't promise anything original.

Good Morning, Earth Mystery is actually a shounen slice-of-life fantasy series. With baby dragons. Main character is a young master mage with two female apprentices, one human and one wood spirit, and two male apprentices, both young dragons drawn as cute mute chibis.* He lives in the ruins of the kingdom's former summer palace, with extensive underground passages. Neighbors include an oracle, a retired dragon hunter, a stone mage, and (inexplicably) an android. Despite continual threats from a neighboring kingdom, not much happens, but it sure is cute.

* Bonus points to anyone who recognizes where this is ripping off from.

The Melancholy of Snow is not, as you vaguely remember, a vampire series by Bisco Hitari, nor is it the manga adaptation of the first segment of 5 Centimeters a Second, but rather a historical shoujo drama about a girl sent to live in the country in the years after WWII, where she meets and falls in a love with a young man with an incurable disease, who dies just before New Years. Two volumes, licensed in French but not in English.

1. What's the official policy, if any is needed, on the unlikely event of competing entries with the same title? Can I not crack under the pressure of general competition AND vying specifically for Best Artistic Representation of Sugar Star Princess Battle*?

2. Can there be a special No-Prize for the best series that is emphatically NOT described in any coherent way by its title? (Sugar Star Princess Battle will be about, um, race jockeys. Grimy London robot urchin race jockeys!)

*Not a real entry name†.

YOU DIDN'T KNOW THIS TIL I TOLD YOU

1. As it would be impossible for someone to know if someone else got the same title from the generator, if two people submit entries with the same title, they'll be treated just like any other entries. :) The same title twice from the same person, and I'll ask them which one they want to use, as I'd rather they exercise their creative muscles and try different titles for their three possible entries. :)

2. Oh why the hell not. XD

I think my favorite one so far has been "Goddess Peach From Hell" because I have this mental image of Princess Peach from the Mario Brothers games becoming very, very powerful and very, very evil.

Good one! XD
