(no subject)

Waiting for the dishwasher to finish so I can go to the grocery store (I have a complex that it'll break and start spewing water all over the floor the moment I shut the door if I leave), so playing with the AutoShoujo Title Generator some more (addictive!).

Welcome to Perfect Gentleman is a 17-volume and still on-going yaoi romance with bulters -- LOTS of bulters.

Land of Celestial Pirates is a shoujo remix of Outlaws of the Marsh ... with bishies. Both kinds. In spades. And the trump suit.

Snow-White Green Tea Cafe
After Happily Ever After and a failed marriage, Snow White has taken charge of her own life. She's been a princess, a maid for dwarves, a stiff, and a queen, now she runs the Green Tea Cafe. She councils wayward lovers and tells the tales like they really happened, complete with epilogues and gossipy details.

And here I was hoping for an AU Aria doujinshi with the undines working in tea shops instead of gondoliering, on a story focused on Alicia ("Snow-White").

Alas, I am unfamiliar with that particular manga. What's it about?

Aria is a science fiction slice-of-life series set on a terraformed Mars that had so much water in the ice caps it's been renamed Aqua. In the city of Neo-Venezia, a recreation of drowned Venice, gondolier tour guides (called undines) are all women. The series follows the apprenticeship of one Akari Mizunashi as she glides through life like, well, a gondola in a lagoon, making friends and being thoughtful. Strong "enjoy life!" message. Both manga and the anime adaptation are licensed -- six volumes (of 14) of the former (if you count the Aqua prequel) from Tokyopop, two seasons (of three) from Funimation.

(Why yes, I evangelize this one. If I can't have a licensed Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou or a regularly released Yotsuba&!, I'll take any substitute relaxation series I can take.)

I see I forgot to mention that "Snow White" is the work name of Akari's mentor, Alicia, who is one of the "three water fairies" (best current undines in the city). Thus the title tie-in.

To Strawberry! ran in Ciao, and while it's drawn in that round, large-eyed young shoujo style typical of the magazine, it's actually a drama about love, friendship, betrayal, and teen pregnancy, dealt with realistically and with sensitivity. Never very popular among readers, it only lasted three volumes but won the Shogakukan Manga Award after it completed because of its Serious Issues.

Hot Gothic Girlfriend isn't actual a manga title, but rather the fan nickname for CLAMP's next series.

Our Amnesiac Restaurant

I'm imagining a restaurant where every employee suffers from amnesia and has a Mysterious Past. Over the course of the manga, strangers will wander in as customers and then turn out to be one of the amnesiac-employee's relatives/lovers/friends/whatever. The amnesiac-employee will then regain their memories and leave the restaurant. Eventually all that will be left is the Mysterious Owner and perhaps the still-amnesiac manager (who is in love with the Mysterious Owner, natch). Maybe they pack up and go to set up another restaurant somewhere else. Maybe it turns out that the amnesiac-manager used to be the lover of the owner, and the owner set up the restaurant to try to bring back their memories or something. I dunno.

...oh wow, it really is too easy to come up with plots for these titles, isn't it? XD Now I'm a little worried about how much manga I've read.

I'm having way, way too much fun coming up with plots for these.

Angelic Singing Moon Clearly some moon-goddess creature who falls in with the hapless everydude.

Waltz Coffee Bandits I'm visualizing some Wild West themed universe that also happens to have coffee. And, er, waltzes.

Romantic Fighter Mermaid An action girl rescuing sailors who have fallen overboard! and fighting pirates!

I Remember Singing Student Council Karaoke battle for sutdent council positions?!

Promise Cake Perhaps involving the ever-popular childhood marriage promise. With...cake.

Detective Saint Tomorrow Investigating for the Vatican! Or something...

Fairytale Perfect Emotion I dunno what this one would be, but I'm intrigued. Maybe a fairy-tale pastiche involving fairy tale characters who, as literary characters, are incapable of emotion? Sort of a metafiction thing?

Miracle Memories Recipe This would be a useful item for the crew at Our Amnesiac Restaurant.

Hidden Pet Delivery Service BWAHAHAHAHA.

Promise Cake Perhaps involving the ever-popular childhood marriage promise. With...cake.

You see, the heroine and the hero made that childhood promise years ago when they were six, then their families moved apart. Now it's highschool, and our heroine wants to be a pastry chef, and every day after school works for a bakery making cakes and other delicious desserts.

A new boy arrives at school. He is tall, cool, mysterious, snarky, etc. etc. and so on. It is her intended! Only he is strangely cold towards her. She tries to win him over with her best cake, but he rejects it! He says he doesn't eat sweet things, and seems to shun her!

A challenge! She figures that if she only tempts him with THE PERFECT CAKE and he eats it, he will turn into the sweet boy she once knew!

Only what she doesn't know is that it's not that he doesn't like sweets, it's that he likes them too much! He moved away, taking him away from all his friends, because his parents divorced and he filled the gap with an addiction to sweets and cakes. He's only recently managed to lose all the weight that he gained, which had turned him into the fat dork at school, and moved back to this area because his dad was transferred here, so he's trying to start all over again, leaving behind the fat dork that he was. He hates having to shun the heroine, because he still loves her, but he believes that it is only IRON CONTROL that keeps him from falling into that addiction again and that if he takes ONE BITE of that DELICIOUS cake she keeps tempting him with, he will lose that hard-won control!

(I see an epilogue, set a few years after the fact, where they're happily married and she's an award-winning pastry chef and he has conquered the addictive impusle because he is now HAPPILY FULFILLED IN LOOOOOVE. He's gained some weight back, of course, and is now slightly pudgy in that cute way, but has also taken up some sort of highly athletic pursuit such as marathoning or cross-country skiing in order that he can eat all the cakes she makes. XD)
