Over a year...

...since I last posted on bike-riding. I've not really kept up with it since I moved into this place and broke the habit, but am attempting to get back to it, so I shall start posting again. Especially since I've now got the arthritis in my foot, so walking isn't something I'm going to be able to pick up on a serious basis right now.

So: same rules as before - the goal is 20 minutes a day, every day. I'm counting yesterday into today's post, just to make myself feel good.* I've never gotten around to replacing the electronic readout thingy on the bike, so I'm still going by my previous mileage - 3.5 mi/20 min.**

20 min. yesterday and today 7 mi. Total: 744 From Rivendell: 267 mi Mountains getting closer. Camping.

* Which is important!

** I also don't increase the amount of time I'm on the bike as I get more fit; I increase the resistance instead. Longer than 20 min tends to be exceedingly boring. My resistance has lowered enough in the past year that I shall not put it here, as it's embarassingly low. :D

When I got an exercise bike, I specifically got a recumbent because I can read on it better. If I have a good book, it's easy not to feel antsy and bored (I've tried with TV, too, but it can't hold my attention as well), though I still can't usually do more than an hour before I need to do something else, regardless of how into my book I am.

Yeah, I like the book option because it keeps my hands occupied. I have a real problem with focusing on audio-only, so podcasts/audio books/etc. are never an option for me, bike or not. Audio + visual is only a little better. I prefer to be doing something else while watching TV, too, which is not really possible on the bike.

Now, if I could use my computer on the bike, that would be one thing...

*nodnod* I always feel guilty taking time for reading or TV when I should be doing other stuff (and I always have other stuff I should be doing). But I've found that TV is excellent for romanising/translating lyrics, because it doesn't take my full brain power (especially romanising) and I can do it on half the screen, with a video playing on the other half. And now that I don't have a car and am walking/taking the bus more, that's an excellent time to get reading done.

same here; i can't read while biking on my recumbent. i catch up with anime while doing it, since i have to pay attention to the subtitles anyway, and that way i don't feel i am totally wasting my time.

yay for you getting back into it!

I agree with you about the 20 minute mark!
*cheers you on*

Which reminds me that I've been pretty lax about keeping up on the miles here, too ... must go post ...

Don't sweat the resistance setting. You're still on the flatlands. I'm sure the resistance will go up when you reach the mountains!

Geeze I haven't done any biking lately either. My 8 am class has been killing me. I need to not be lazy and just do it at night. Hopefully I will be posting more as well.
