1. Anyone who looks at this entry has to post this meme and their current wallpaper on their LiveJournal. [ETA: Only if you want, natch! --[personal profile] telophase]
2. Explain in five sentences why you're using that wallpaper!.
3. Don't change your wallpaper before doing this! The point is to see what you had on!

Anticlimactic, huh? :D I dislike most wallpapers, because the busyness of the image interferes with my ability to see and read my icons properly. When I do have wallpaper up, like on my home desktop, it's designed so the area where the icons are is blank.

Lol! I think at my simplest I had a gradient, at least.

Ooh, that's smart. I always have so many windows open that I need to switch to, uh, "f" view in Photoshop, which gives the same effect. (Does everyone else call it that?)

:o I have a tiny laptop screen. Want!

I use Prairie Wind (one of the ones that come with Windows). A plain solid single-color background annoys me, but otehrwise my reasoning is the same as yours (Prairie Wind is simple enough to not interfere with icon identification).

Before I got a new computer at work last summer, I had my regular login background as a nice pale green scheme and the administrative login as the Windows blue default, so I could tell at a glance which login I was in. I think I may change back to that scheme, as I liked it better than the default intense blue.

Oh! Right, I forgot about the one I use for my admin login (which I rarely use). You might find this amusing. Goodness knows it's sent more than one IT worker into a panic as they glimpse it while walking past my desk:

You know, my pulse picked up just looking at that!!

It does a pretty good job of keeping me on-task during admin logins. Easy to stay focused and get out once done. :)

oh my goodness. O_O that made me freak out even though i know it's just a wallpaper. ^^;

ROFL! That would totally freak me out too if I didn't know it was a wallpaper.

*contemplates putting that on her own desktop just to freak out XO and the tech guy, but has mercy on them (and her own eyes - how do you see anything on that?)*

That's why I save it for admin login, it's so annoying to work with that I log back out and log in regularly ASAP. Otherwise I'd just tend to stay logged in admin, and that's a no-no.

On top of that, I also have a related screen saver as well: BlueScreen of Death Screen Saver (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb897558.aspx). It cycles between a fake XP bluescreen and a fake XP login progress meter, so when it goes to screen saver it looks like it's stuck in a reboot cycle. Then when you move the mouse you get hit with that wallpaper up there. It's enough to kill some folks. :)

Wallpapers also suck up memory during startup, making the computer run a little slower.

At work, my wallpaper is the corporate default which is (thankfully) something I can deal with. It didn't used to be but we've rebranded since then. :)

I'm always amused by desktop screencap memes so I may do this one later.

Yay, you! I am not alone!
