I remember in Korea we'd get dust storms from China, and for a surreal week of the year, the sky would be this dusky mauve. It was fantastic. Of course, anything left outside developed a patina of dust, too, but I didn't care.
Nope. Only when the weather conditions are right - exceptionally dry (6-7% humidity, which Just Never Happens), high winds as a low is sweeping through. Today it's joined by wildfires as we had a freeze a couple of nights ago that killed a bunch of vegetation, so it's tinder and kindling.
It's also more common in North Texas than Central, as it's dryer up here. :)
