The other cat somehow manages to get out of the litterbox without stepping in her own poo and tracking it all over the bathroom. Here's a wacky idea: why don't you try to do the same thing?

... it must be a boy-cat thing, because all three of the male cats I've lived with have done that, and not a single one of the female cats ever have.
