Addition...

1 pickle jar full of pennies + 1 pickle jar 1/4 full of pennies and 1/4 full of silver coins = $48.01.

AND AND AND AND Coinstar does not take ANY percentage out if you choose to convert it to an Amazon gift certificate instead of cash! (You have to find a location with a machine that does that, of course, but you can do that on coinstar.com.)

And now to have an Amazon orgy!

Before you say that, "The horror! The horror!" (http://www.amazon.com/Greasing-Pan-Best-Paul-Riddell/dp/1604597216/ref=sr_11_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1238201541&sr=11-1)

The Amazon gift card option is what makes Coinstar not a waste of space in my opinion. Because, I dunno, now it's like I have to spend that money on books.

Heh. Our credit union takes coins, but their hours aren't as convenient, so I'll keep that in mind.

It was pretty much the impetus that got me off my butt and taking the pickle jars of coins to the Coinstar machine. :) I bank through USAA, so there are no local branches* and this is the easiest method for me. Of course, I tossed the pickle jars at the store, so now I don't have anything in which to start collecting change again. XD

* Or ATMs, but they refund up to $15 worth of ATM fees each month, so I can use hotel and airport ATMs with impunity. XD

Wait, WHAT? Coinstar will give you Amazon gift certificates?!

THIS. This is why old media journalism is dead to me: they fail to provide me with information that is essential to my continued existence.

Yes! Not all machines, though, so check on the Coinstar website first. Before you put the coins in, you choose what you want to get - I think it was "e-certificate" then "Amazon". It counts your coins, then prints out a receipt with an Amazon certificate code on it, which you can then redeem.

Bingo. The ones I've been using don't do that, BUT! The one at the Albertson's I pass every day does. Michael's going to wonder where all his loose change went, and why the bookmobile UPS truck is paying a visit...

I just need to train myself to put all my change in one spot when I empty out my pockets in the evening, instead of on whatever surface is handy, to make it easier to collect it and bring it in. :)

AMEN.

I just got an incentive to clean my room and my car.

I dedicated a small vase I'm not using for anything else to collecting my pocket change, instead of the floor. Every time I put change in, I think MOAR BOOKS!
