I have just discovered the existence of SaveTheWords.org, where you can adopt words that are in danger of falling out of the dictionary. Adopting them means you promise to use them as much as possible, and you get a snazzy electronic certificate.

The word I ahve adopted? aporrhoea, a bodily emanation or effluvium. Yes, Virginia, it means con funk. :)

This is a great idea, although I tried it with a few from my book of unusual words, and was sorry to see that it didn't have some of my favourites, like fritinance (the noise a lot of insects or birds make together), pinguid (rich or fatty) and mumruffin (a long-tailed tit, which is a sort of tiny bird). Maybe they've already died out because no-one adopted them. Meanwhile, I've adopted jussulent (full of broth or soup, which is what I was yesterday).
