Aaaaaart

Spent two hours working on her hands, and have declared them not done, but done enough. Next: hair!

Thank you! :D

Wow... Envious here! What did you say you had studied before employing these techniques?

Thanks! :D

A DVD tutorial that I posted about here (http://telophase.livejournal.com/1435063.html). If you've got a fast connection, you can download it for whatever the US equivalent of 6.99 GB pounds, which is what I did. Worth both the time and the money.

I might have to do that. And also snag that book you mentioned before... which I can't remember the name of. Now that I have a Spiffy New Tablet (tm) (An Intuos3 9x12 :D) I'm curious to see how well I can master painter.

This one's being done in Photoshop, actually. XD I still don't quite get Painter, unfortunately. *sigh*

ETA: Was it Advanced Painter Techniques (http://telophase.livejournal.com/1412792.html)?

My one piece of advice on this is: don't skimp the undersketch. Make sure you nail all the shapes and the perspective before you start slapping the shading/color on, because the painting can't really cover for screwing up the sketch. The parts I'm having the worst trouble with are the parts i skimped on before painting. :)

Yeah, I believe that was it. :)

I couldn't do photoshop after like version 8. Mainly because I r not good at the brush fu. At least Painter makes picking a brush easy and I've been using it ever since I swapped to Vista (since OC4 I disliked and OC3 failed to work with vista).

Gotcha on the sketch o.o

Once I figured out that using hard-edged brushes with low opacity was key for Photoshop painting, it got easier for me. :) And the DVD tutorial shows how he sets his brushes up, with low flow, and how to lock the brush shape so it doesn't keep defaulting back to whatever if you go for the eraser. :)

I know you don't like criticism whilst you're still working on a picture and I swear I like the rest of it, but her jointless thumb disturbs me. Of course in the end it may not matter at all since the sword blade is still to be done and it may cover it, in which case totally ignore me! :D

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2009-03-06 02:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Jointless? Dunno if it's apparent on your monitor, but the creases that mark where the thumb bends are there.

(And, er, btw, the words "I know you don't like criticism whilst you're still working on a picture and I swear I like the rest of it, but..." won't stop the crit from killing the picture for me. On this one, I'm past the stage where it's going to do that, luckily, but I'm letting you know for the future.)

It could well be the monitor and I apologise to you.

Wow, this is looking gorgeous.
