And one more thing...
Back in library school, when I was considering switching my concentration from digital imaging over to information systems, I was not-so-gently discouraged by the prof in charge of that*. He asked why I'd like to do so, and one of the reasons I gave him was that I liked working with IT people. He frowned at that, and said that no, I wouldn't be working with IT people even if I switched.
I have one thing to say to that, Mr. Professor...
FUCK YOU, I HAVE ROOT!
okay, only on one server, but it's my server, and I have root access and I am the admin.
* I have no idea why. It certainly wasn't a gender thing, as that area, like all areas in the department, was about 2/3 women.

I just put my toes into online programming stuff (this intarwebs thing seems to be around for the long run) and wrote a Wiki! It was fun! The hardest part seems to be finding which of the hundreds of environments, frameworks, and libraries to use.... it's brutal.
And still, I don't have root on my domains, being on a shared server.
I had root once, though, when I self-hosted. What a pain!
Congrats on root, though.

I threw up a wiki for the Reference department and it took a while to find one that would run on an NT platform with the database software we have and was open-source. Now that we've got this new server, we've got Apache and PHP installed on it, so I can install MediaWiki if I can convince the Ref department to go for it. XD
