AWStats?

Has anyone here ever had any success getting AWStats to work?* Barring that, anyone know of any other FREE logfile analyzers that give as much info as AWStats? (Analog doesn't give as much info, which is a shame, because I can make that work.)

It's always been installed for me. I'm looking at installing the IIS version on the server here at work but I am waiting for approval still. My business offers AWStats but it's installed on the server for me.

Aarg. I've done enough this morning to figure out that the problem is not that it needs to be on a server - I've tried installing it on both my personal computer and the server I have root on - but unfortunately the error message it's giving me is on the order of "This doesn't work. Have you tried checking the permissions or configuration file?" Both of which I've done until I'm blue in the face and ready to send the computer through the wall.

Once. And only once. A long time ago. Your error message doesn't ring any bells, alas.

As far as I can figure, the problem is that AWStats doesn't like that our logs don't have %bytesd in them, and suggests adding it to the LogFormat string. Naturally, when I do, it process the logfile, but claims all the records are corrupted (presumably because there's a lack of a %bytesd record). Aargh!
