Went to dinner Friday with [livejournal.com profile] myrialux at The Covey, which had been described to me as a brewpub, so we weren't expecting it to be quite as fine-dining as it was. However, we got free dessert because they had to move us to the other side of the restaurant space (there's a pub side and a restaurant side) because a party that was clearly expected to be 15-20 people ended up being closer to 40. But they were terribly apologetic about it. The food is very good and I had the $10.50 burger (because no way was I paying $23 for fish and chips, which was the other thing that appealed to me on the menu), and have to admit it was pretty much worth the price and was the best burger I'd had for a very long time. [livejournal.com profile] myrialux had the pizza, and said it was quite good also.

Saturday, shopping hell as we each had several tiny errands to run that took us from store to store. I cooked a cottage roll (a sort of ham) using this recipe. DO NOT trust the 'HIGH' in the recipe. I cooked it at low and it was still too dry, mostly because I had a 2-pound roll and the recipe was using a much larger one. I cooked it closer to 7 hours, but 5-6 would have been better. It tasted good, which is the important part, and I think a shorter cooking time would produce something really nice. And perhaps cooking in Dr Pepper instead of ginger ale, as the thing I most objected to about it was the taste of the ginger ale. XD But Dr Pepper would give the same sweetness, with a hint of more cherry-type flavors, which should go well with ham. [livejournal.com profile] myrialux made mashed potatoes using Alton Brown's recipe as he is a Good Eats fanboy, but they were quite good. :D

Rearranged the living room Sunday, and think I finally achieved something that I actually like, rather than an arrangement I tolerate but think something's missing from. Need to get a better TV stand to hide the cable spaghetti behind the TV/cable box/TiVo/DVD player/cable modem/wireless modem/PS2 brouhaha.
