Interesting...

...I have found out more about the politics of my LJ f-list in the last five minutes than I have in the past however-many years. XD

(I mean, I knew it skewed liberal, like it skews female, to the point where I'm slightly surprised when someone comes out as male or conservative, but there's a few surprises out there right now. XD)

Hee! I totally believe that.

I am v. pleased, myself.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2008-11-05 04:54 am (UTC)(link)
:D I'm getting surprises both ways - there's people who didn't mention politics at all who are suddenly posting giant sparkly text all over the place, and others who are now gloomily predicting ruin and the end of Western civilization.

I, however, know with an absolute certainty that my mother and I do not want to celebrate Thanksgiving with a certain branch of the family, as we will have to listen to Woe and Angst and Predictions of Ruin for the entire time, which tends to put a wee bit of a damper on the holiday mood.

[identity profile] mscongeniality.livejournal.com 2008-11-05 05:02 am (UTC)(link)
Heh. I'm actually not getting much in the way of surprises. I'm also trying not to be sparkly as I self-identify as a moderate-Dem and am not sure Obama would have been my candidate of choice. Still, I'm no longer looking at my company's job openings in the mother country (it's a Canadian firm) and that's a big step in the right direction.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2008-11-05 05:07 am (UTC)(link)
What I like best about this whole thing isn't the politics, it's that Obama symbolizes the American Dream for a lot of people: the son of a Kenyan goat-herder is now President-Elect of the United States of America. That's what's got me grinning from ear to ear.

[identity profile] mscongeniality.livejournal.com 2008-11-05 05:12 am (UTC)(link)
So true.

Also, this victory speech is kind of awesome.

[identity profile] blades-of-ice.livejournal.com 2008-11-05 04:50 am (UTC)(link)
I can't help wondering if I was one of those surprises...or if you haven't even gotten to me on your looooooooong fpages yet XD

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2008-11-05 04:56 am (UTC)(link)
I got there, and it was a surprise because I didn't recall you once mentioning politics. XD

(And in case you or anyone is wondering - I've got LJ friends of all political persuasions and all levels of passion about it and haven't defriended anyone over it. I'm more likely to defriend someone over their being boringly tedious about it than their being passionate.)

[identity profile] blades-of-ice.livejournal.com 2008-11-05 05:01 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think posting about something that can create so much ~drama~ is usually worth the time. That, and I'm not the most educated on politics and thus don't intend to make a fool out of myself by talking about something I'm not fully informed about.

But this. This I can say something about XD

(I probably won't have much to say about politics after the initial 'OMG OBAMA' hype dies down. And most of my flist are in some way more liberal than me and I only defriend if I get called nasty names for my political beliefs. Which hasn't happened yet, nor do I expect it to happen.)

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2008-11-05 05:05 am (UTC)(link)
:) Yeah, I tend to avoid it, as I don't handle political drama well, so I don't invite it here by mentioning much about it. My personal criteria for my f-list is that they be interesting people with worthwhile stuff to say. *casts eye at own posts* Er, or at least entertaining. XD

[identity profile] blades-of-ice.livejournal.com 2008-11-05 05:10 am (UTC)(link)
Er, I guess that makes me flattered to be on your flist considering all I ever say is "I'm anxious! life sucks! I love my boyfriend! I bought stuff!" XD

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2008-11-05 05:14 am (UTC)(link)
The drama of daily life can be interesting, too. XD And then it gets to a point where, when I'm contemplating trimming my f-list, I think "What about her? No, wait, I have to see if she got that job yet! What about him? No, wait, he's getting married! What about her? Oh, she just got that book and I want to see what she thinks of it!" and give the whole idea up as a bad job. XD

(Yeah, I don't post much about politics normally. But this is HUGE.)
octopedingenue: (team 7 omg wtf squee!)

Ditto! Lucky nothing worth the horror of defriending yet. :D

[identity profile] ninja-tech.livejournal.com 2008-11-05 04:50 am (UTC)(link)
I am finding I have something really important in common with most of my f-list. This is pretty nice, I must say.

[identity profile] bitpig.livejournal.com 2008-11-05 04:55 am (UTC)(link)
The people have spoken (http://www.cheapdisposable.com/bruce/brucelewis.com/2008/11/2008-revolution-is-over.html). Congratulations to President-Elect Barack H. Obama.

[identity profile] lady-ganesh.livejournal.com 2008-11-05 05:11 am (UTC)(link)
It is deeply educational!

Couldnt help it...so damn happy right now I had to sparkle!

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2008-11-05 05:24 am (UTC)(link)
I almost feel like I have to put on sunglasses to read my f-list tonight. XD

[identity profile] stardragonca.livejournal.com 2008-11-05 05:34 am (UTC)(link)
This Monarchist male from Canada is weepy and smiling for your country.

[identity profile] thomasyan.livejournal.com 2008-11-05 05:36 am (UTC)(link)
Heh, I decided to peek at your reading-page. Wow, it is wall-to-wall election posts. My main reading-page has only a few, but I think it mostly means that most aren't online right now.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2008-11-05 05:38 am (UTC)(link)
Yup. And if you want to filter out the communities, etc. that dilute the personal LJs and see exactly what I'm seeing (well, minus the f-locked ones), try http://telophase.livejournal.com/friends/friends. XD

[identity profile] rachelmanija.livejournal.com 2008-11-05 06:09 am (UTC)(link)
I got distracted by my spanking new CREEPY STALKER, but I'm sure you will not be surprised to see me say YAY OBAMA! Also, YAY SASHA AND MALIA'S PUPPY!

[identity profile] seawolf10.livejournal.com 2008-11-05 06:38 am (UTC)(link)
Those of us who aren't on your f-list...are still happy Obama won.

GLEE.

[identity profile] magicnoire.livejournal.com 2008-11-05 10:16 am (UTC)(link)
The moment Obama was declared the winner, my flist erupted. It skews wildly to the left with only a couple conservative/moderate posts. I was kind of surprised.

[identity profile] bitpig.livejournal.com 2008-11-05 01:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I am one of those bitter, gun-clinging conservatives of whom your side is so tolerant. I hope there is room for my kind under your leader's New Order.

In any case, I sincerely pray that may God bless and guide President Obama. As a loyal citizen, I will support him as my conscience allows.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2008-11-05 02:19 pm (UTC)(link)
This is the only thing I'm going to say about this, whether you reply or not: on my f-list, the only vitriolic name-calling I have seen during the campaign - from either side - has been from your journal. Every other discussion has been what I consider civilized, even when emotions ran high.

[identity profile] longshot14.livejournal.com 2008-11-05 05:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Really? I didn't do any vitriolic name-calling?

Wow, I must be losing my verve! ;)

[identity profile] tygerr.livejournal.com 2008-11-06 05:46 am (UTC)(link)
Erm...I may have some news for you.

Sitting down?

Okay: I'm male. I'm almost positive.

[identity profile] tygerr.livejournal.com 2008-11-06 08:52 pm (UTC)(link)
:-D
