Kanzashi!

Hey, I've been busy since I left my camera at Mom's you saw me last! And tonight I sat down and experimented with ways to attach them to various hair thingys.

You may have seen a couple of these already. The green/orange one in the upper right is the first one I did using the kimono fabric scraps. I picked the ugliest one in case I screwed up badly. XD Going counter-clockwise around the outside, we have: a large cotton one, then a slightly smaller cotton, then a larger double-petal cotton one, then a larger cotton one I did when I realized I had 4 black petals and 1 peachy petal left over. The three in the middle are all made from the same scrap of kimono fabric.

All of them have a center made of a bead cap and a plastic pearl hot-glued on. They're all hot-glued onto their hair thingys, some of which are reinforced a wee bit with wire and others reinforced a wee bit with thread. The three in the middle are just hot-glued with no reinforcement wee or otherwise - I have some bobby pin things with round platforms at the end precisely for hot-gluing things on.

The biggest problem, natch, is that the floral wire I'm using for the stems is too heavy a gauge to be easily bent around very small things. I must experiment with lighter wire. The stuff I'm using now is also probably too light for the traditional Japanese method, which is to bind several stems together and either attach it to a comb or other hair accessory, or make the wires themselves into a hairstick.

I need to photograph them with better light and in a more attractive environment before I post them onto Etsy or wherever. Hopefully by this weekend.
