Bookage

A quote from near the beginning of Bangkok 8. The narrator is a Bangkok cop and a devout Buddhist, as is his partner, who is the person the narrator's referring to in the passage:

A more advanced soul than I, he gives no sign of the disgust he feels at being trapped in this pollution called life on earth. He would not wish to poison anybody else's mind. Nevertheless, he smacks his hand somewhat violently against the glass of the sentry box and yells at them to wake the fuck up.

I like it so far and sincerely hope that this continues through the rest of the book, because there's a sequel out called Bangkok Tattoo.

I also bought Mary Gentle's A Sundial in a Grave: 1610. Lois McMaster Bujold's The Hallowed Hunt is due out in a few days, and I'm awaiting it with anticipation.

[ edit ] I love playing Bookworm, but I end up spending far too much time going "Snarvid is a PERFECTLY good English word, I'm sure!"

Holy crap, there's a sequel out?

::RUNS TO BOOKSTORE TOUT SUITE::

...seriously. I loved that book to fucking bits, and I've never met anyone else who read it. So, hi. :D

*waves* Hi!

I ran across a link to some sort of article about the sequel on Bookslut (http://www.bookslut.com/)'s blog, which sounded interesting, so I went out and bought the first one. :) Liking it a lot so far!

I am so in love with Sonchai. And oddly enough, reading it gave me some insights into how Sanzo might think. The whole Buddhist celibacy, divorcing-of-the-mind-from-sex thing, in favor of a greater goal. And, of course, the fact that it's hard to hold onto that when seriously tempted. *g*

I rambled on the subject to some extent a while ago, I think; if you're at all interested I could dig up the link.

XD Sure, that'd be great. :)

I read in it at lunch hour and have just got to the point where he's finished meeting Warren and the two colonels are frog-marching him in the direction of the brothel.
