Right.

[livejournal.com profile] yuletide nominations are open.

What are you thinking of nominating?

[identity profile] ellen-fremedon.livejournal.com 2008-10-21 02:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Definitely A Companion to Wolves, the Steerswoman books, and the Mars trilogy.

Right now I'm arranging my vote-swapping over the other things I'd be interested in writing: Mad Men, Middleman, Shadow Unit, Temeraire, Sherlock Holmes, The Revengers' Tragedy, Icelandic sagas, and RPF- Classical Composers. Bloom County and The Red Green Show are already covered.

I haven't quite yet figured out what I'm going to nominate: most likely Mononoke, but everything else is up in the air. It has to be a weird combination of something set in a world I know enough about to write, and have the ability to back off from the main characters and write around them, because I have a hard time getting into the heads of canon characters. XD But something like Mononoke, where you're not supposed to be in the head of canon characters works.

(Last night as I was watching Shounen Onmyouji, I realized that I hadn't gone into my Heian-research period yet when I'd last seen it ... and I was picking up so many more of the details now. XD)

I'm definitely planning to nominate Mononoke too but how should that be nominated? Is it enough to do Mononoke? Or Ayakashi: Bakeneko aka Ayakashi: Goblin Cat/Mononoke?

But then also Claymore, Seirei no Moribito & Shin Angyo Onshi. The other two slots, I'm not sure about yet.

Oh God I have to narrow down my list so badly. I'll go look at the nominations and see what people took care of for me.

Still poking about in the master list to see what's already there ... there's hardly any Peter Dickinson. Things I might add include Kurosagi Corpse Delivery Service; Michael Chabon's Gentlemen of the Road; RA MacAvoy's Tea with the Black Dragon and its sequel, plus her The Grey Horse (pookha!); Rumer Godden's China Court; DWJ's Archer's Goon; Sally Watson's YA historical The Hornet's Nest; and Elizabeth Lynn's Dancers of Arun series (although I'm really only interested in vol. 3, The Northern Girl). And Kill the Dead by Tanith Lee.

They've got an awful lot I like already. Over on Shejidan, I grandiosely said I would not write/request C.J. Cherryh again (both gave and received her last year), but I'm regretting it ... I wouldn't mind writing in one of her series again. And then there's always SDK (to which I would add a few characters - they're missing a bunch of significant Mibu). And Martha Wells and P.C. Hodgell, who don't get enough love. And Fafhrd and the Grey Mouser! And the Lymond Chronicles!

Sadly, nothing. No Yuletide fun for me this year. :(

Ooh, Kurosagi!

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2008-10-21 04:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Erf, good question. I'm inclined to say just "Mononoke" and have that cover the two series. :)

Between my class which ends Dec. 19 and the story I still owe you from [livejournal.com profile] livelongnmarry, it'd be a bad idea all around. I'll probably hang out on the pinch hit list and see about picking up something there if it turns out I'll have time after all.

[identity profile] rachelmanija.livejournal.com 2008-10-21 04:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmmm!

The Mahabharata,, Diane Duane's Door series, Ann Maxwell's Fire Dancer series, Spindrift, Project Blue Rose... I wonder if Gundam 00 counts as rare?

I am actually toying with RPF - Heian Japan. It's long enough ago that I don't have that "Bzuh?" thing I get when I think of RPF, Seimei and Hiromasa are actual historical figures, along with Whatshisface who became the Thunder God, so it could totally go fantasy/myth/legendary without attempting to stick to any canon, and I've already got a lot of research into the area and it could totally be published at some point, although not with first publication rights.

OMG, do it, do it!

I am also thinking of Smith, LJ and Sherwood. Maybe I should throw in Sarah for good measure.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2008-10-21 05:08 pm (UTC)(link)
You could have a Smith hat trick!

[identity profile] rachelmanija.livejournal.com 2008-10-21 05:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Sexton Blake! Modesty Blaise!

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2008-10-21 05:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooooh, Aqua and Aria the manga! Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou!

Kekkaishi. There's basically no English-language fandom for it, which makes me sad.
