THINGS I LEARN FROM ANIME

..I didn't manage to grab a screenshot and this program makes it tough to rewind a tiny bit to grab a moment that's passed, but looking at the plates of food that Yuri's mom has made his family, it seems very likely that the Japanese eat toast, fried eggs, and lettuce* for breakfast.

* Or it's St Patrick's Day and she's tinted scalloped potatoes green for the occasion.

Yeah, we had salads occasionally with breakfast when I was living in the Japanese dorm. Usually cabbage-based, rather than lettuce, by the way. And sometimes potato gnocchi. And sometimes cold spaghetti. It was interesting.

When I was studying in Wales, breakfast was more-or-less normal (when I bothered to show up for it - my classes were all late, so I usually slept in), but they outdid themselves in the salad department. I remember one salad that consisted of nothing but melon balls and popcorn shrimp.

Or seeing as this is Mama Jennifer, it's entirely likely that it's magical mazoku yaoi aphrodisiac unicorn sprinkles. Tinted green for St. Patrick's Day, of course.

Yuki sometimes had rice and/or salad for breakfast when she lived with us. Her favorite breakfast food, however, was CAKE.

Yeah, salad featured prominently both at the hotel breakfast buffets last summer and in the Japanese-style breakfast Chad got at the ryokan.

You might enjoy this MeFi thread (http://ask.metafilter.com/54887/What-do-the-Japanese-eat-for-breakfast) from last year discussing breakfasts in Japan, which includes several mentions of restaurant and family-style meals involving green salads...
