Ike report

Of the Houston folks I know and have info on,and who a few people here might know: [livejournal.com profile] tprjones is having rain (he's got a webcam up and is giving reports via phone on his LJ if you're interested) and power flickers. [livejournal.com profile] myrialux, on the west side (near the Loop and I-10), is just having wind, and the Taskers, farther southeast, are without power. None of them live in mandatory evacuation zones (the zones most likely to flood).

ETA: Hurrican tracker. I'm up in Fort Worth, and the predicted hurricane track right now is veering to the east and avoiding Dallas/Fort Worth, so probably lots of rain but not huge storms for me.

I'm glad you posted this. I was wondering how the hurricane would affect you. -_-

Not very much, mostly. :)
chomiji: Hotaru from Samurai Deeper Kyo, a little closer to Kyo's blade Tenrou than he'd like, with the caption Uh Oh Crap (Hotaru-uh oh!)

The eye was tracking straight for Galveston at 10 pm. I just wrote an article about the 1900 hurricane there ... .

*Raises hand* Guess who's *just* enough east of Dallas to be in the main path?

Eesh. Stay safe, Texans!

Isaac's Storm

Best wishes to all the Texans (and Lousianans) in the path. I'm a bit horrified to hear there were people on Galveston planning to ride it out, although no one I know.

People interested in the 1900 Galveston Hurricane (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galveston_Hurricane_of_1900) may find Isaac's Storm (http://www.amazon.com/Isaacs-Storm-Deadliest-Hurricane-History/dp/0375708278/) an interesting read. I wonder if they'll build the storm wall even higher after Ike.

Today's probably an appropriate day to post about The Unthinkable, a very good book on disasters and the human response to them, which addresses why people stay to ride out hurricanes and other disasters.

Glad you're mostly out of it. I think you and my other Texas friend are both mostly out of the track. I always feel selfish at these times, because I know plenty of other peoples' friends are evacuating/in the middle of things/etc.

we lost power but have it back now. Glad you're safe
