ROFL! I think they mean "having overnight guests," but it's much more amusing to picture having a nice dinner with your guests, retiring to the living room, and rolling out the night's entertainment: The Double Adjustable Garment Rack! WOOOOOOYEAHHHHHH! Party time.

They have to mean it that way, but I just don't give "entertaining" that connotation. My parents do. Hmm. There's probably a thesis in that... for someone else.

I'm picturing it being used for amateur gymnastics: "I can TOTALLY do a handstand on the high bar!" after three cosmos.

Nah, just a difference between the primary and secondary meanings: to amuse, or to host.

Yeah, I suspect that's an old-fashioned and/or regional and/or upper class usage...

Yeah: with or without bondage gear.

That was my thought: it didn't look stable enough to strap a really ACTIVE partner to it....

Sometimes, those generic selling points just aren't applicable.

Maybe it is a lot sturdier and stable than it appears. Are special slings or straps advertise as accessories? :)

I have a feeling they mean as a device to collect the coats of all your guests without resorting to The Bedroom Bed Piling Technique (that is a long tradition in my house), but it's much more fun to contemplate it as the main event.

What, you don't make all of your guests undress at the door?

[identity profile] madspark.livejournal.com 2008-09-03 05:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I want to go to YOUR parties!

Cue the wah-wah pedal and the hairy bobbin' man-ass.

Makes sense to me. If you entertain, you're going to have a lot of people with coats and purses and such.
