QUESTION!

I'm getting stuff ready to send to the Anime Weekend Atlanta art show. They don't allow the selling of fanart, although they do have a contest for fanart. So I'm sending ONE piece of fanart for the contest to be marked Not For Sale, and the rest will all be originals.

So ... which fanart piece do I send?

ETA: The intarwebs have spoken! Les Marchands it is! (Feel free to vote and comment as you will, though!)

I say the first one, but only because I don't know who the other people are in the second picture.

I think the question is less who the characters are and more which is more likely to win an award. XD

As a complete layperson I would actually say the second, because it seems (without knowing who any of these characters are) a very original idea. The end result seems to match the intensity of the creative process.

Thanks! Most of the people looking at it aren't going to be able to ID all of the characters anyway, so it helps if it appeals even without knowing them. XD

Yes, me too. You get creativity and execution points!

I don't know much, really, but I voted for the first one. I like the second one as well, but I don't know....there's just something about the expression in the eyes on the first one - but they're both beautiful!!

I voted for the second one. IMHO it's the more eyecatching, I think because of the simplicity of the piece and the mucha-nod.

It's so overwhelmingly the favorite, I think it'll be the one. XD

I like the first one and think it's really awesome in terms of technique, but I just love the second in terms of interpretation and style and am wondering if it'll catch the judges' eyes more.

Yeah, I've matted it up and will send it. Here's hoping! :D

I voted for LMdD because while they're both gorgeous, striking pieces, Mucha-esque Art Nouveau anime/manga fanart seems to me to be a bit more uncommon than realistic painterly anime/manga fanart, and thus potentially more eye-catching out of sheer novelty value...

Exactly what I thought.

(Refrains from commenting but is deeply pleased with the results ... this was an ironic face-off for me because before you did "Marchands," "Breeze" was my all-time fave of your works!)
