Have celebrated getting a mat cutter by cutting my first mat to completely the wrong size. In my defense, it's been on the order of ten years since I've done this with anything other than a straightedge and box cutter, I was fighting the cat the entire time*, it's for an oversize picture**, the outside edge of the mat is actually larger than the mat cutter***, and I'm fighting a migraine.

The bright side is that as long as it's this big, the interior portion of the mat that I cut out will still give me lots of mats. :D

* Mat board you're moving around and cutting? I MUST SIT ON IT

** This one in 22x30". I did some graphic design work for Mom and it's my payment. XD

*** I ahve no idea where my box cutter is. In some box somewhere. I have a coupon for 25% off my entire purchase at Michaels between 4PM and 8PM this afternoon. I'm getting the frame then, and will pick up a box cutter and T-square at the same time.

*hearts matting* I was super happy to find out that matting really is a good investment because of having a perfect rectangle left where you can get so many more things matted using that color (matching sets!!).

When I did my first matting a couple of weeks ago, my cat thought I had put the matting on the table for him to lay on and did not understand the concept of razor blades not being a good thing to bat his paw at. *rolls eyes* I eventually had to lock him in my room because he was getting too into it. I could see your cat as being a bit more stubborn when it comes to removal from the object of her desire, though... XD

Hee. Yeah, at any time when the mat board remained still for longer than 15-20 seconds, she came over and attempted to lie down on it, then got cranky when I shoved her off. XD

if it makes you feel better. I've been a professional framer for literally fifteen years, and uh... I still bugger up my measuring. Nothing like checking it ten times, doing it just right, putting the picture on and seeing somehow you managed to bungle the measurements to make your day bright.

And it was by six whole inches, too! Aarg!

The print is 22x30", while the frame is 24x36", and I worked out all the measurements to make sure there was an even amount of white paper showing around the image (there's a caption printed on it, so I didn't want to cover it up) and ... somehow cut the damn thing to 24 x 30". *headdesk*

At least the frame is now in my possession at 25% off, and I have a 36" T-square and a new yardstick, since I can't find my old one, so I am less likely to make that particular mistake again.

Still don't have a 36" cutting mat, so have to make do with cardboard on the carpet, but Mom likes getting me one or two big presents at Christmas, so I shall request a large cutting mat this year, I think.

I'm sure the cat is equally frustrated at your refusal to accept her gracious offers of assistance. ;-)
