Working on the generator...
Working on the steampunk story random generator. I've added the not-so-prurient bits of the kinkfic generator to the cool bits generator, edited out the obviously not steampunk elements, and then added in the steampunk elements listed in the comments of the previous entry here and a bunch more I gleaned from various pages online.
Mind you, because there are so many elements that would fit in pretty much any story, most of the stories that pop up aren't specifically steampunk. Although, if I said "it has a steampunk setting," your brain would provide the gears, so to speak. Example:
So far my favorite character to turn up is "... a lepidopterist who has a stutter."
Anyway, the generator is over here. Feel free to play with it. Also feel free to drop me a comment with more plot elements, settings, persons, items, objects, motivations, etc. :)
The story begins in a whitesmith's, when an airship pirate and an inattentive scholar meet because of searching through the ages. It concerns brothers in arms. The protagonist is motivated out of misplaced idealism.
This story begins as a saint investigates a mystery about the loss of love. Clues include casual vengeance and courtship. The villain is revealed to be someone with disguised gender.
It begins in a balloon and ends in an emporium of mechanical artifice. Plot elements include face or ears burning, characters who get where they're going by hard work, persistence, and intelligence, not by having Cool Talents handed to them on a golden platter, and decorum. The hero is a baron, and the villain is someone who lives in the moment.
Your story begins with a gunfighter with a sense of humor in a hidden waterfall. The antagonist is a priest who is motivated out of loyalty to a commanding officer. Plot elements include verbal or physical seduction and ornate engraving.
In the deep forest, a daring engineer encounters formal or deferntial modes of address as the story begins. As the narrative unfolds, the protagonist meets an erudite criminal with a shaved head, and they wind up in a secret room with performing acts of atonement or restitution. [Oh is THAT what they call it nowadays?]
It starts in an aerial walkway, with a schoolboy. The antagonist is a person who stays behind to make sure everyone gets out safe and not motivated to avenge a lost sibling, and the plot involves elements like a grand romantic gesture that's a little foolish and failing to save the world.
The hero of this story is a daring smuggler who has earrings. On the way to the story's conclusion the hero encounters a flapper. This person has an addiction to counting. Plot elements include ornithopters and wolves.
The villain of this piece is a rebel, while the hero is a daring engineer. The plot begins with a woodland pool with a waterfall flowing into it in a shining city. The ending includes elements of inequities in beauty, rank, or class and the figures that hide in the pattern of woodgrain.

The story begins in a giant country mansion, when a noble hero who is immature on occasion and a devoted single dad meet because of loneliness. It features a strong character becoming weak. The protagonist is not motivated because they burned all their bridges back home. That could be a story in just about any setting.

I finally thought of some additions (naturally, I couldn't be on time):
Japanese automatons (karakuri)
a room full of abandoned inventions
a clockwork prosthetic limb
a huge pipe organ
a tower made of glass and steel
a clockwork maid
a clockwork butler
a woman wearing a top hat
a woman wearing a fascinator
a mechanical cat
a recently returned explorer
an explorer thought lost
an artifact from China
a newly invented super-fast train
meeting secretly on a train
a back alley in Hong Kong
a penny arcade
a dance hall
an automated abacus
a [rajah/sultan/samurai lord/mandarin] who funds [wonderful/terrible] research
Heh heh, "acts of restitution." Heh heh.
