Today = not very good. Started when I could barely get myself up this morning, then smashed a finger in the door on the way out. (Ring finger, left hand, the section closest to the hand. It's bruised and sore, with a scrape, but nothing worse.) This morning at work had maintenance guys being VERY LOUD with drilling holes into the wall and banging a lot to attach new shelving to the wall. When I finally sent an email to the building manager asking if it would be over soon, as if it wasn't I would have to be elsewhere, it wasn't answered until the afternoon (well, he'd been at a meeting all day), after it was all over and my entire morning was shot. And then there was this and that, culminating with a coworker from upstairs coming to ask a question of the coworker whose cube is next to mine and then talking for fifteen minutes and Just Not Leaving.

the problem with that is that with the ADD, if someone interrupts me even for 30 seconds, it takes me 20ish minutes to be able to get back into what I was doing. A quick and easy break for you is an extremely frustrating chunk out of the day for me. And when someone comes and shoots the bull with someone in the same room for a while? I can't concentrate on anything while they're talking, and I can't get back into it for a while after it stops. So in combination with the morning, and then the really late response to my question and just feeling incredibly frustrated, I said the hell with it and left work at 3.

Didn't get any art done, but at least I got the dishes all washed. The dishwasher in this apartment is pretty crummy. I was spoiled by the last apartment, where the only good thing about it was the dishwasher.

And then I watched a lot of TV. Ghost Hunters International? When you go to a Victorian mansion and someone tells you that they have no idea why the Green Man is in the decorations of the chapel because it's a pagan symbol? You probably ought to do some research and learn that the Green Man has been present in Christian churches throughout the country for centuries before going all "ooOOOooooOOoooooo". And movement in the rafters in an unfinished building with holes in the windows? When the website of the mansion in question mentions the jackdaws that nest in the building? Not impressive.

Yes I watched Avatar. No spoilery discussion in this post, as I know people who haven't watched any of the third season yet read this LJ. :)

[livejournal.com profile] myrialux coming into town tomorrow. May or may not be online much this weekend.

Thus making you 5 people in the universe(or at least, the Avatar fandom) to not assume every person in the world has seen an episode 2 seconds after it airs.

*huggles over the rest*

:) I read my f-list and noted that a number of people missed it due to cable problems or forgetting it was on and such, so it was fresh in my mind. XD

I'm sorry your day has been so trying. *support*

One of those days where a whole bunch of minor annoyances add up to one major frustration. :/

[identity profile] rachelmanija.livejournal.com 2008-07-18 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
Ouch, sorry about that. Yesterday I was rejected by a TV agent, learned that there are two restaurants of the same name and the person I was meeting for lunch was at the other one, got my period and accompanying cramps, and had to miss a meeting because I got so hopelessy snarled in traffic (and had left late because my washing machine malfunctioned.)

Then Adrian came over and made it all better.

:P [livejournal.com profile] myrialux is coming into town this weekend, but he's at his parents' place tonight and I'm meeting them for dinner but I have to fight an hours' worth of nasty, nasty traffic to get there.

At least we're going to see Hellboy 2 tomorrow.

Ugh. I'm sorry your day's been so rotten.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2008-07-18 04:13 pm (UTC)(link)
It was just one of those days where any one thing would have been perfectly fine to deal with, it was that they all happened at once.

[identity profile] blades-of-ice.livejournal.com 2008-07-18 04:59 am (UTC)(link)
Avatar! I'm just thankful that people upload it to youtube/other sites so quickly after it airs, so poor souls like me without cable can still enjoy the fun. The next episode should be hilarious, have you seen the trailers for it?

I love when people write off every little sound or odd occurrence as paranormal. Especially when they're "professionals" on a TV show XD

[identity profile] rurounitriv.livejournal.com 2008-07-18 05:06 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, but that means they're getting paid to do that. XD

[identity profile] blades-of-ice.livejournal.com 2008-07-18 05:43 am (UTC)(link)
Hm. Good point.

At least (in my opinion) it's still entertaining to watch and get scared, even if it's really just creaky houses or a very angry bat.

[identity profile] rurounitriv.livejournal.com 2008-07-18 05:47 am (UTC)(link)
"Gee, let's see how far out of proportion we can blow utterly normal sounds and activities! It'll improve our ratings! :DDDDD " I'll admit it's entertaining watching them feed on each other's nerves, though, at least the little I've seen of the show.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2008-07-18 02:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Most Haunted is the one where they really freak each other out. Ghost Hunters and GH International pretend to be scientific and out to debunk things, but don't do it very well, if you happen to actually know anything about science.

But Most Haunted consists of five or so people wandering around a dark building who never shut the hell up. "SH! Did you hear that?" "What? Did you hear something?" "Sh! Yes! Over here!" "EEEE!" "What?" "I felt a touch!" "Where?" "here!" "Sh! did you hear that?" "Did you hear something?" on and on ad infinitum.

I only watched about 3 episodes of that before realizing that I had, in effect, watched them all. (Especially since one of them had their pet medium getting possessed, so repeat the above, with one person bellowing out spooky stuff in a hoarse voice.)

[identity profile] rurounitriv.livejournal.com 2008-07-18 02:16 pm (UTC)(link)
*ROFL at the description of Most Haunted*

Ah, but you see, that's the thing - you quit watching the one that wasn't even pretending to be scientific and objective because it got dull. The pretending-to-be-debunkers thing makes it more interesting and dramatic when they tip each other over the edge, because they aren't like that all the time. XD

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2008-07-18 02:26 pm (UTC)(link)
And you'd think, that with all the cameras wandering around with the investigators, that one time a camera would be pointing in the direction where something moved, wouldn't you?

I listen to a podcast that has two people who claim to be skeptics but who are a bit more on the believer side of the equation, but they talk about that week's episode of GH and point out problems or places where something could have made whatever-it-is happen, and there's something they point out ... 90% of the time when something happens to Jason and Grant, *Grant* is located in a place where it would have been easy for him to make it happen.

[identity profile] rurounitriv.livejournal.com 2008-07-18 03:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah.

Doesn't surprise me. People have been using that dodge since the Spiritualists. If not longer.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2008-07-18 04:10 pm (UTC)(link)
...a very angry bat

That just strikes me as hilarious, for some reason. XD

I like yelling "OF COURSE THE EMF METER IS SPIKING YOU'VE SURROUNDED IT WITH CAMERAS AND LIGHTS AND THERE'S LIVE WIRES RUNNING THROUGH THE WALLS YOU DIPSTICK!" at the screen. :)

[identity profile] blades-of-ice.livejournal.com 2008-07-18 04:22 pm (UTC)(link)
There even was a very angry bat in (at least) one of the episodes of Ghost Hunters! Scared the shit out of everyone XD

Oh, the EMF meter. Sometimes they do a good job of investigating the actual source, sometimes not. I want one, not because I think my house is haunted, but because I'm convinced my room has far too much energy in it from all the stuff I keep plugged in/running.

[identity profile] vestaka.livejournal.com 2008-07-18 05:12 am (UTC)(link)
*loves you to pieces for not spoilering* since I haven't had a chance to see it. The cable guy's been out here trying to figure out why we can't get certain channels and accidentally cut the line to the entire neighborhood. So... no avatar for me just yet.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2008-07-18 04:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, lovely.

[identity profile] ninja-tech.livejournal.com 2008-07-18 05:39 am (UTC)(link)
I hate those days where all the little and big things come together to make it a craptacular day. Well, in any case, I hope you have a better weekend! :)

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2008-07-18 02:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks! I hope so! XD

Sorry I missed this! I had a not-wonderful day myself (except that smilla came by for lunch) and went to bed on time for once ... everyone else seems to just be getting active online when it's my bedtime (and you and megan are located west of me, but smilla and some of the others aren't, so that's not it ... ).

The Green Man is cool. I thought about him when I was watching them raise the Midsummer pole in Stockholm (and I really really need to get those pictures together and posed).

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2008-07-18 04:12 pm (UTC)(link)
I like the Green Man, because he speaks of the beliefs of those who existed before literacy, surviving and changing. Er, that's not quite what I was trying to say but I can't really express it in words. :)

[personal profile] chomiji 2008-07-18 04:33 pm (UTC)(link)

You mean, because he shows up in what are now ostensibly Christian artworks and celebrations?

Because that's why it reminded me of the Midsummer pole thing - it's Pagan as all get-out, but it's part of the traditions of a practicing Christian community.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2008-07-18 04:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, like that. The continuity of belief and tradition, and how so many of these things have deep, unrecognizable roots.

(And it's not like Christianity has ever co-opted pagan symbols for tis won use, oh no... XD)

[identity profile] tammylee.livejournal.com 2008-07-18 03:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee! I'm d/l'ing all the Avatar eps then watching them in a chunk on Sunday!
Sorry your day sucked. Hopefully today is better! =D

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2008-07-18 04:11 pm (UTC)(link)
:) I pretty much mainlined seasons 1 and 2 and the first half of 3. XD
