Finally back to this picture!
A picture I've been dying to come back to, but hadn't been able to because of the anthology.

I need to gird my loins and start on the hands, but everything else about the drummer himself is done. He's got a lot more variation of shading on his back and pants in the original - compressing it for Web display killed a lot of that.
The dragons are not the final version of the image. They're from an EPS file I bought from istockphoto.com. They need to be slightly fuzzed, given a bit of texture and noise, and given variations in light and shadow, and some parts worn down or completely off where the drumsticks have been hitting them.
I also need to make the medallion on top of the drum bigger, and seriously consider redoing the handles.
And after I get the monochrome version completely done ... I tint it with color! Whee! I have no idea what it's going to look like when done!
Anyway, the next thing on the slate after I finish this is
chomiji's picture, which is WAY OVERDUE, then phone charms and keychains for A-Kon. No rest for the wicked.
ETA: This piece is a PERFECT ILLUSTRATION of why it's often STUPID to tell someone whining about not being able to draw hands to just draw their own in a mirror. There's no way I can get my hands into that position and see them. I can't even take a good photo. HAH BLOODY HAH. Off to poke around the Net and see if I can find any pictures with hands holding something about the size of the drumsticks - which I have too thin at the moment - in that position.
ETA2: Inexplicably, taking a screenshot of it and saving it that way results in some of the detail in the dark spots being preserved. If you still can't see it, your monitor's not adjusted correctly. :D

Anyway, the point is moot because I managed to (painfully!) contort myself in the mirror and get a couple of blurry shots of my own hand in that position and finished the B&W portion of the painting. It's posted now. :)
