Oh, lord, more fandom stupidity.

*waits for f-list to explode*

I am going to stick my head under the metaphorical covers and wait for the Kentucky Derby instead. Remember, you guys are all supposed to root for Colonel John. :)

And here I was worried that this weekend was going to be boring.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2008-05-03 06:26 pm (UTC)(link)
No fear of that!

[identity profile] keelieinblack.livejournal.com 2008-05-03 06:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I was just wondering this week what the next HP kerfuffle would be, now that Lexicongate is mostly over.

Granted, I was hoping for something funny, not...this.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2008-05-03 06:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I know! Is it too much to ask for interpersonal dramallamas instead of this?

[identity profile] mscongeniality.livejournal.com 2008-05-03 06:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Oy, I can't even begin to comment.

Hell, even White Wolf managed to turn using the Shoah for a game setting into something tolerable.

[identity profile] meganbmoore.livejournal.com 2008-05-03 06:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, this explains all the "do you think it's offensive to use this word for a game?" posts I came back to after lunch that didn't really explain what they were talking about. I think I'd rather just go away and read...

People just keeping inventing new ways to be morons.

...oh HP fandom. Only you can be so stupid and have so many levels of fail.

I just can't believe they really went there. Weren't any of them thinking? Like even for 10 seconds that hey, maybe this isn't a good idea?

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2008-05-03 06:59 pm (UTC)(link)
What I don't get about people doing things like this is how, even if they don't comprehend the offensiveness, they don't realize that tidal waves of wank are going to happen.

They must've had some idea, because they apologized in the user info. As well as saying "But we're not bad people, honest!" And yesterday was even the day of remembrance. I just...wow.

[identity profile] ninja-tech.livejournal.com 2008-05-03 07:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow. That is pretty incredible. User gmth's comment pretty much hit the nail on the head.

Shouldn't their inner moral-concern alarms have been tripped if they felt they had to apologize in their introduction to those they would offend? That's a big stop sign if there ever was one...

ETA: [livejournal.com profile] loligo also said the same thing over at the wank (20 minutes before I thought of what it was that bothered me so much about the RPG intro). I'm too wank-shy to try to jump in the fray. Way to go Loligo!

I swear I don't understand why anyone on the internet even bothers to refer to the Holocaust anymore, much less create a story/RPG/whatever based around it. It's like asking for a huge wankstorm. Not to mention, you know, usually horribly inappropriate and offensive. But since the people who do these kinds of things don't seem to care about being inappropriate or offensive, I'd think the thread of MASSIVE INCOMING WANK would give them a bit of pause.

Hmm I am as out of HP fandom as one can be and even I think it is insensitive. I must admit though, I likewise think it is/was/whatever a clever history /reference/ which could have been a good thing. However, as a title (and a specific title at that) for a such a loose thing as yet another random fandom rpg where people come to have fun (and lulz) it is indeed tasteless.

[identity profile] akaihyo.livejournal.com 2008-05-03 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I totally fail to be violently offended by this. Disappointed, yes. Angry, no.

It is the sort of thoughtlessness and failure to understand the big picture I expect on the internet. I hope the people involved will learn a lesson from this but I doubt it. Screaming at people and hitting them with sticks is more likely to make them feel that they are victims of the whole affair. But, just maybe, they will come to understand why people reacted as they did.

Once again, why do I always click?

"We're sorry that it offends you."

"We're sorry that it offends you."

no words.

i'll go back to playing in my rpg that has necro, thanks.

I was actually rooting for Eight Belles in the Derby...she's been put down now. How did John do btw? I still don't know the full order of finish

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2008-05-03 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
He didn't do too well, unfortunately. I'm not sure of the order - I'm out here at the ref desk - but he didn't finish in the money.

[identity profile] droiche.livejournal.com 2008-05-03 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Sometimes it's frustrating being a fan of anything. I'm almost afraid to talk about my fandoms outside of my journal or those of friends because whatever I say might start a war. -_-

Anywho: Here! Have a nakie Konzen. ^_^

*Makea a note to remember to root for Colonel John in the Derby. Crosses fingers he will make it to all three T-Crown races.*

Gah! We're waaaaaaaaay overdue for a T-Crown winner. The last one was Affirmed in 1978. >_O

Reading the entire fiasco just made me re-realize how powerful the connotations of a single name/word can be.

...WHAT?!

See, this? Is why I stay the hell away from fandoms in general. It saves my blood pressure.
