Duo for Yoon

[livejournal.com profile] yhlee asked me to make a picture for the background of her new laptop, named Duo. She asked for Duo Maxwell, a kitten, and ginkgo.

In other news: at work, but not happy about it and may be leaving at lunch. Also, via [livejournal.com profile] baka_neko, a Japanese schoolboy cafe where you, too, can pretend you're in your own version of Ouran High School Host Club.

It's a lovely picture, but that kitten is the highlight for me. Absolutely spot on. :)

Thank you! (and thank morguefile.com for all your free stock-photo-ref needs! XD)

I wasn't sure I'd be able to render its fluffiness correctly, but I managed to get close to it. (There's more detail in the black on the full-resolution version that got compressed out of it in the jpg.)

That's a lovely picture, even if I don't know who Duo is.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2008-03-05 05:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you!

Duo is the least crazy of the five giant mecha pilots in Gundam Wing, which, if you take into account the fact that he wears a long braid, jodhpurs, and a priests' collar, says quite a lot about the rest of them.

[identity profile] yhlee.livejournal.com 2008-03-05 05:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, yeah, but consider Trowa and his echidna-hair and the clown pants. I feel that Duo's sartorial sense is not that bad in comparison!

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2008-03-05 05:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I just want to send a message to the entire anime industry that says "Jodhpurs are not cool unless you are actually riding a horse!"

[identity profile] yhlee.livejournal.com 2008-03-05 05:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it's weird that Heero's the only Gundam pilot who goes horseback riding, and he didn't get jodhpurs. Maybe Duo wanted to be prepared? Or to impress Heero?

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2008-03-05 05:26 pm (UTC)(link)
"ONE DAY there will be a horse! ONE DAY!"

And perhaps he is also ready to perform emergency marriages and baptisms?

[identity profile] yhlee.livejournal.com 2008-03-05 05:33 pm (UTC)(link)
It's no less kooky than the CLOWN PANTS! Just be glad I didn't name the laptop Trowa and beg you to draw CLOWN PANTS.

(Okay, I...wouldn't've done that, because I would have shot myself rather than stare at the CLOWN PANTS all day. Trowa does look pretty in a uniform, though. If you can get over the hair.)

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2008-03-05 05:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I drew Trowa ONCE. That hair just about drove me NUTS.

I also drew him from the waist up, so the pants did not bother me. XD

Save a horse, ride a cowboy!

*is shot*

Are mini-skirts optional?

[identity profile] jess-eklom.livejournal.com 2008-03-07 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
Didn't the first pilots wear this sort of pants? Maybe he's trying to reference them.... Just an idea... cuz... y'know... he's a pilot.

Here via Herald, love the painting style!

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2008-03-07 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
He also wears a priest's collar, and has hair that's a serious problem in zero-G. :D

(Thanks!)

... that's a guy?

Oy.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2008-03-05 05:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Yup! :D

[identity profile] yhlee.livejournal.com 2008-03-05 05:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Hence the legions of American Gundam Wing slashers who write Duo so that he cries a lot and is emotionally fragile. Which is so completely out of character it boggles the mind. But [livejournal.com profile] rachelmanija's theory is that they look at the long hair and go, Girly! Or something.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2008-03-05 05:27 pm (UTC)(link)
It's just not a proper relationship unless one of the two cries a lot and needs to be comforted!

Oy, indeed.
oyceter: You are watching anime. Caution! (anime is crack)

[personal profile] oyceter 2008-03-05 06:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Welcome to the wonderful world of anime and manga! At least this time the confusion was not perpetuated by the guy wearing a dress ;). Still one of my favorite reported conversations ever!

[identity profile] singsonggirl.livejournal.com 2008-03-05 05:41 pm (UTC)(link)
The least crazy? I think it's a tie between him and... uh... no, you're right. Geez, those kids are messed up.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2008-03-05 05:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Someone on my flist - I think it may have been [livejournal.com profile] yhlee came up with the idea that they only had a certain amount of sanity points among them, which got traded back and forth to each other across the course of the series.

[identity profile] rilina.livejournal.com 2008-03-05 06:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm pretty sure that was [livejournal.com profile] rachelmanija. And Rachel or [livejournal.com profile] oyceter came up with the theory that certain other characters had insanity fields that made people around them act crazy.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2008-03-05 06:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I was under the impression that Rachel reported that someone had created the sanity-points thing?

[identity profile] rilina.livejournal.com 2008-03-05 06:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmm. This post (http://rachelmanija.livejournal.com/534840.html) makes it sounds like hers, but it also makes it sound like it's been discussed in some other post that I can't find.

Also, I just starting giggling madly in the corner of the coffeeshop because I got distracted by rereading Rachel's recaps, and now everyone here thinks I am insane.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2008-03-05 06:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it might be [livejournal.com profile] oyceter who came up with the idea, then? Hm.

[personal profile] oyceter 2008-03-05 06:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I think Rachel came up with sanity points? And we both fine-tuned details (like how the Zero System affects the number of sanity points available). I can't remember who came up with the insanity field!
oyceter: teruterubouzu default icon (Default)

[personal profile] oyceter 2008-03-05 06:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Hrm, wait, I guess it was both of us? (now trying to stifle giggles while rereading ep recaps)
oyceter: teruterubouzu default icon (Default)

[personal profile] oyceter 2008-03-05 07:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Wait, no, it was Rachel for insanity points!

I will now stop spamming your LJ, really...

Well, these things are important. :D

I also want to add that my desktop is now VERY VERY PRETTY and now I have extra-sooper-dooper incentive to keep my desktop clear of iconses. :-D Instead of using it as a holding-cell for downloaded files.

I have two monitors. MORE SPACE FOR DOWNLOADED FILES!

Awww, that is so adorable! That kitten is clearly going to grow up to look like my Ripley, who is basically a giant furball

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2008-03-05 08:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Sometimes I wish my cat were more of a furball. Then I think of the number of times she throws up already, and revise my wishes. XD

chuggachuggachuggachurgchurgchurgAAAACK! Hey! What's for dinner?

[identity profile] movingfinger.livejournal.com 2008-03-06 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
Short hair in a cat (and minimal undercoat) is a very, very, very desirable quality. Very.

[identity profile] rurounitriv.livejournal.com 2008-03-06 05:46 am (UTC)(link)
That's adorable. :3
