TERRIBLY IMPORTANT SUBJECT

WHY HAS NOBODY ON MY FRIENDSLIST BEEN DISCUSSING LAST NIGHT'S PROJECT RUNWAY, HUH?

YOU PEOPLE DO NOT HAVE YOUR PRIORITIES STRAIGHT.

OK, I find myself wanting Chris to beat out Rami just because I know what I'll see on the runway if Rami shows* - it'll be gorgeous, but familiar - but I want to see the showmanship that Chris loves.

And even though I would find myself wanting to strangle Christian if I was in a room with him longer than thirty seconds, I'm glad he made it because I think he'll be the first designer to not play it safe on the runway during this final competition. Everyone else has disappointed me in the end, so far.

* And, yeah, I know all five of them showed at Fashion Week so that nobody would know which three made it. There's really bound to be some photos online somewhere, unless Bravo was damn tight on security...

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2008-02-14 08:59 pm (UTC)(link)
MUAHAHAHAAAAA! Then you have not yet seen [---], [---], [---] or ESPECIALLY [---]!!

Aha! Thank you! XD

I'm sad for Sweet Pea but she has such class. Even Christian was stroking her arm to comfort her.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2008-02-14 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. The judges are right - she does wonderful ready-to-wear stuff, but never really showed anything with the right oomph to take it into runway wear.

[identity profile] heyoka.livejournal.com 2008-02-14 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I have no television.

Which may be another example of misplaced priorities, who knows. XD

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2008-02-14 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
YOU UNAMERICAN SOMETHING-OR-OTHER! GO BACK TO WHERE YOU CAME FROM! LIKE CANADIA OR SOMEWHERE!

I watch way more TV now that I have a TiVo. I no longer bow to the tyranny of network schedules. XD

Off and on through my life, I've spent a chunk o'years without a TV - Africa, then my first few college years, most recently my latest stint in grad school. XD Not to mention my last years of highschool, when we moved to the country and only got 2 channels, neither of which carried anything I watched, so I stopped watching TV, so I might as well not have had one. XD

[identity profile] heyoka.livejournal.com 2008-02-14 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
so I stopped watching TV, so I might as well not have had one.

This. I actually own a television, the broadcast reception's just ass around here for some reason.

Eventually I want to replace the TV itself with something nicer -- like with actual dedicated a/v inputs, not a single coax jack. Then maybe I'll get cable.

Sorry, I ended up discussing it in my friend's journal so I didn't post in my own. My comments are here (http://dchockeyguy.livejournal.com/260534.html?thread=1288886&style=mine#t1288886) including what I thought of each of the collections. (I saw them on Bravo's site along with Victorya Hong's awful collection and Michael Kors'.

Because the odds of my watching Project Runway on any given night are right up there with my attending the next A-Kon as a guest?

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2008-02-14 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
You mean you have something better to do than watch manufactured drama on reality shows? The horror!

[identity profile] sclerotic-rings.livejournal.com 2008-02-15 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
Hey, I've offered to let you in on a slice of that wonderful world, but you turned me down. Now when my babies are finally let free upon an unsuspecting world and I become emperor, won't you feel silly at wasting time watching crap reality TV shows?

[identity profile] janni.livejournal.com 2008-02-15 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
WHY HAS NOBODY ON MY FRIENDSLIST BEEN DISCUSSING LAST NIGHT'S PROJECT RUNWAY, HUH?

Because some of us are mutants who don't watch television.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2008-02-15 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
I know, but there's at least three who can be counted on to talk about it but who, it seems, through some sort of internet Brownian motion all managed to talk about it on their friendslists instead of mine today.

I discussed it with [livejournal.com profile] kefanii in IM since we watch it "together" that way. We groaned so loud and hard when Rami went right to the draping. He should have gone home for that.

I was disappointed that Chris did something so like his avant-garde entry. Kef and I thought he should have employed some of the corseting seen in the inspiring portrait for a nice contrast of diaphanous swirl plus straight, hard lines. The only thing peacock about Sweet P's presentation was the woman's hair! I liked Christian's entry once the big top black thing came off. When he spoke of how wonderful L'Oreal was, Kef and I smirked about how he's already a product placement whore.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2008-02-15 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Sweet P never quite seemed to grasp the concept of "inspired by" - it's not enough to just take some of the colors, you have to pull some of the other elements into it as well.

I was wondering where the orange-gold and red came from. Not any peacocks I know! And there was nothing feathery or exotic about that dress.

Sweet P can design mundane clothes just fine, but very little of what she's shone had the pizazz I think is necessary to win these things.

I'm really psyched for next week's sit-down with all the contestants mostly because it sounds like Heidi gives Victorya some of the what-for. I was so glad when Victorya got the boot. Repetitive and has an attitude and a chip on her shoulder? About the only thing Victorya did that I liked was the fauxhawk-inspired punk ensemble she collaborated with Jillian on.

(I liked Jillian's armor-inspired outfit this week, although it was too much bling for me no matter what Heidi thinks.)

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2008-02-15 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I think that if Sweet P was in high fashion, she'd be the assistant in the studio responsible for taking the runway look and making the ready-to-wear version.

OTOH, if she's smart, she'll be taking the publicity over her appearance on this show and parlaying it into a business of her own.

Yeah, Victorya just annoyed me. I can't even pin it on anything in particular, I just know that if I had to spend more than five minutes in a room with her, I'd want to strangle either her or myself.

[identity profile] viridian5.livejournal.com 2008-02-15 09:46 pm (UTC)(link)
If she's smart, she'll use this exposure to the utmost.

Victorya was sullen, superior, and passive-aggressive, which is never a good combination but is even worse when she doesn't have the talent to make up for any of it.

[identity profile] ginny-t.livejournal.com 2008-02-15 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I wasn't commenting because it didn't hit the torrents until this morning. Grar!

I really liked Jillian's outfit. I've heard some people not liking her, but I do like her clothes. It's entirely possible that the reason this was the most emotion we saw from her is because she'd been keeping it check and focusing on the goal. That's how I would've handled it.

It's weird that they slagged on Rami so much for always doing the same thing. I remember Laura from last season with her week after week of extreme plunge v neckline. (ugh. It looked like some 80s stuff worn backwards!) They didn't comment on it at all until they were sending her through to fashion week. I just find it a bizarre change from them.

Because I've been watching a lot of Project Runway, I've noticed some interesting things. Frex, Heidi's voiceover is often dubbed. I can hear it when she's off-screen but speaking; the change is pretty distinctive. This week, it seemed like a lot of the dialogue was on 105-110%—maybe they were trying to cram a lot into the episode? (It was an unkind thing to do to poor Tim, though.)

BTW, geeky Brownian motion reference ftw!

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2008-02-15 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I think Jillian's inability to manage her time effectively and her last-minute stress-outs annoyed the hell out of me. Not that I have anything to stand on because I work EXACTLY LIKE THAT. XD

Huh. I hadn't noticed any of that other stuff. Interesting.

I JUST WATCHED IT MMKAY?

Yeah, Chris and Christian would be awesome on the runway.

And there are photos-- I think you can get the link at Salon, but I'm trying to behave.
