So on the "How I spent my summer vacation weekend" post, I included
i) had a dream Tuesday morning that presented me with three bishounen with angsty anime backstories and colored hair
in the vague hope that people would ask me about it and I could post it. After an overwhelming cry for more*, here 'tis.

I was at work - not *my* work, but something similar, in a library or university. The area where I worked was that sort of cluttered warren of offices you get in academia, with towering, overstuffed stuffed bookshelves and rickety tables and desks piled with papers that someone really ought to file at some point. If you've been in higher education, you probably understand. Several of us worked back there, not just me.

At any rate, the dream started with the school broadcasting some sort of conference over an audio system and my boss wanting me to listen in on it, so I was scurrying around trying to figure out who, how, and what I needed to set that up. (As part of the office started to flood a bit, but somewhere around there my subconscious decided that part of story wasn't necessary and quietly abandoned it.)

I ducked out of the office-warren into the main hall, and saw a set of people down at the end, university officials giving three people from the conference a tour. The three people were, naturally, the bishounen I referenced in the previous post. One was very definitely Cute, and looked remarkably like the Cute I'd drawn. The other two were Brooding and (presumably) Angsty, as he said nothing over the course of the dream, just angsted in the background.

Cute noticed me and called me over, waving - turns out I knew these three from something-or-other five years previously. What, I have no idea, but I knew them well enough that I was tweaking Brooding, who had shortish (er, for manga - kind of like Sasuke) blue hair for not conditioning his hair enough like I'd told him back then, because it was getting dry. Brooding actually picked me up - I think it was because he was tall enough I couldn't have messed up his hair, making it stick out in back, if he hadn't. :D We'd had a bit of a thing back then, nothing too serious.

Sometimes Cute had green hair, sometimes Angsty had it; my subconscious never settled on which one. There was also, amongst the university officials, an older woman of the sort who tries to act about twenty years younger*, who was attempting to seduce any of the three.

* in the "short skirts, tight tops, boozily and overly flirtatious" way, not in the "obsessively reads manga and blogs about dreaming of bishounen" way. I think she was a bit like the prostitute in Wild Adapter 1, and is probably my subconscious screaming about me having bought Wild Adapter 2 this weekend and not yet read it.

Scene 2: the bishounen were leaving campus that day, and said older woman was getting a bit desperate. I'm not entirely sure *where* this bit was set, as there appeared to be a rather large circular bed sunk into the floor of the lobby of the building. :D She was either ignored or rather forcibly rejected by Angsty and Brooding, and Cute sadly hugged her and walked off. I went over to her and explained that I knew them five years before and they had gotten slightly less broken since then. Five years previously, one or all of them might have gone for her. Angsty was 100% gay (I don't know what he was angsting about, although if he'd have gone for her 5 years ago and not now, that might be a clue about his backstory :D). Five years ago, Cute would have been willing to do anything with (or to) anyone, if it would only make that person happy, and that he'd managed to stop that compulsion in the time since. Brooding got the best backstory, though: his first lover had been his mother, and he was truly ambivalent about the whole thing, since it really hadn't been that bad at the time. :D

So they left, although I knew where they were staying because Brooding had told me, and the general plan was to get together and see if we could revive our previous acquaintance later on and then MY IDIOT NEIGHBOR WITHOUT THE MUFFLER STARTED HIS CAR AND REVVED IT FOR FIVE FUCKING MINUTES SO I'LL NEVER KNOW HOW IT ENDED.

At one point my subconscious attempted to make them giant robot pilots, but then realized I wouldn't stand for that sort of thing, even asleep, so quietly dropped it. They were still there for some sort of technical thing, though.

Note that Snarky was missing, but probably because I'm Snarky, and so fill that role. I once had a dream about the Saiyuki boys, but without Hakkai - because I filled that role in the group dynamics, and so he wasn't needed. XD You people should really believe me when I tell you I'm am really a character person: I can't even have a silly fannish dream without working out the character roles and where I'd fit.

That's right, blame it on me!

Well, if you're going to work out roles, the subconscious is the way to go ... it's much more efficient at it than the regular ol' brain.

Honestly, though, I feel deprived. You dream about the Bishounen of the Apocalypse. I dream about having trouble getting places while driving. I wake up and want to demand my money back.   XD

My normal dreams - the ones I remember most of, at least - tend to be more about trying to find a bathroom that's (a) not disgusting, (b) has a door, (c) is not in a public area, or (d) is usable in any way, shape, or form. And then I wake up and realize that my subconscious was trying to get me to wake the hell up and go to the bathroom.

It's added a new wrinkle: twice since I've started taking the Strattera, I've gotten nauseated in the middle of the night. The last time I was having a perfectly nice dream about Kenpachi Zaraki when I randomly started barfing until I woke up enough to realize it was my physical state intruding on my dreams. :P

>>nauseated in the middle of the night<<

Awww, that sounds nasty! Poor Telophase!   :-(

I think that what's feeding my dreams isn't any less mundane, but the dream process is not as literal-minded ... I'm fed up with my job and trying to figure a way to a more satisfying sort of life without totally disrupting everything that's going OK for our family. So, in my dreams I drive around, sometimes accompanied by family members, trying to find ways around roadblocks, washed-out or under-construction bridges, fields full of stumps of trees, and so on.

Well, you certainly had a better night than I did.

I am now going crazy trying to recall who other than the two in Saiyuki had their mother as their first lover. I'm sure it's happened more often than that.

The two in Saiyuki? Doku and ... who?
