Someone on DA asked if people preferred fanart in the original artist's style or in a different style. One person replied, "I might have some respect for anime fanart if it was done in style other than anime. But you just don't see that."

My smartass answer:

Yeah, you just don't see anime fanart done in non-anime styles around here.

Haha, I wanna see a link to this...

And that kind'a makes me wonder if my art's considered 'anime' style or not. :oa (After all what's 'anime' style? Don't various different series have a different style that sets them out from others? :Oa)

The usual twerps fighting over originality vs. derivative in there. Hellifino if your stuff is considered "anime" or not - I'm sure that some of the ones I linked to might be considered too anime by the commenter, but there's some that are completely, absolutely, unabashedly Not Anime in my list o'links.

I love that one and how there's hardly any lines - it's all defined by the colors. :D

I might have more respect for snobs if they weren't so close-minded ♥

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2008-02-09 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
Awwwww, think of the poor snobs! They think of you!

Naked!

I like the way they think!

Have you had a chance to poke around on the Tegaki E (http://www.unowen.net/tegaki/index.php) board I posted about last night?

Re: nakie is freeee~

Nope - I haven't read LJ since Wednesday night, so I'd have something to occupy myself with at work on Saturday. XD I'll poke about it tomorrow. XD

I love it. Make those DA people quake in fear of your sarcasm and logic.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2008-02-09 04:46 am (UTC)(link)
Hee.

I think the only way you can *not* find non-anime style anime fanart is if you deliberately do not look for it. It's not really that hard.

[identity profile] myrabidpetspoon.livejournal.com 2008-02-09 04:48 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, people are idiots. If you ask me, anyone who makes remarks like that isn't an artist- just a dickwad with some art supplies.
All the artists I know/have met respect the fact that everyone has different and strengths, and while they might now enjoy the style persay, they recognize all are just as difficult in their own right. ...Then there's the fact that (as those who've been required to duplicate another artist's work will tell you), it's VERAH difficult to perfectly imitate a piece of art.
...And I'm done. I'm not getting into this, when you obviously know the guy's name must be Karen because he is certainly a bag of douche.

As for what you've linked: GAH! I need to favorite these-- they're SO BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!! I mean, that European Raito is hella sexy. o.o;; Not generally a fan of the Light-man, but DAMN. That realism + amazing texture = FANGASM. And despite the fact I've seen it a billion times-- I always think that L picture is someone cosplaying, ALWAYS! *o* I am so jealous, and inspired to make more loverlie arts.

[identity profile] myrabidpetspoon.livejournal.com 2008-02-09 04:54 am (UTC)(link)
PS: I thought it might amuze you to know- The little brother of my sister's ex threatened me the other day. I guess I pissed him off, so he said he'd write my name in his Death Note if I didn't knock it off. I promptly laughed my ass off. ...And then he pulled out a "Death Note" brand composition book and a fancy emo pen. I walked away crying I was laghing so hard. XD

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2008-02-09 04:59 am (UTC)(link)
Haaaaa! XD

Did he give it the Light Flourish from the anime? XD

[identity profile] myrabidpetspoon.livejournal.com 2008-02-09 05:26 am (UTC)(link)
Nah, if he did I might have actually said something to him- something along the lines of "Practice much?" or "Well, guess we know what you wanna be when you grow up." or something fun like that, I'd imagine. XD

What made the whole experience even sweeter was the fact I introduced his brother (who then introduced him) to the series before it hit CN (since no one I knew in Real Life seemed to know of the series before the announcement of it's dubbing, so I reccomended it to a bunch of peeps).
LMAO

You do indeed recall correctly. There's one of Kakashi coming out of the shower that's just brain-meltingly hot.

*whuggles her [livejournal.com profile] pzb watercolor Gojyo, which of course does not actually exist because it's non-anime style*

I'm just amazed at the amount of bile and energy expended on whether fanart is good or bad. In the grand scheme of things: who cares?

[identity profile] vom-marlowe.livejournal.com 2008-02-09 02:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Sometimes I want to smack people like that with a heavy book and screech, "You! No more internets until you've spent at least an hour on your own mark making techniques!"

I think I am getting old.

[livejournal.com profile] james_nicoll had a poll about what the ideal population for the entire Earth should be. After looking at the comments on YouTube to Chocolate Rain, I wanted to lower my answer by one or two orders of magnitude.

*snark* Where does this person look? I see a wide variety of artistic styles in fanart at dA. Come to think of it, none of my fanart pieces are in the anime style really. Try as I might, I can't seem to master Minekura's style. Of course hers, isn't anime either. It's manga. I typically use her art books for reference, and those are neither. Ha ha. Anywho, I seem to have more success when I just do my own thing which, I'm told, is what audiences prefer anyway. =-P
