Randomness

1. Now that I've written that Bleach fic, I can't take Ghost Hunters seriously when they do a provocation to try to get a spirit to respond. Er, not that I took them seriously to start with, but you know what I mean.

2. People who post icons and say THESE ARE NOT BASES DO NOT ALTER THEM when the icons are merely cropped from a manga page or screenshot and tinted one color with no other work whatsoever? MISSING THE POINT. Makes me want to go to the manga and crop the exact same picture out and put text on it JUST TO SPITE THEM.

3. My cat is having some sort of nice dream, I think. She's sitting next to me, sound asleep, and making smacking noises with her mouth.

4. Aaaaand now that I've found out who did this icon so I can credit them, I can use it. :D

5. The most useful word in Scrabulous that I've found so far? Qaid. A q word without a U is something to treasure close to your heart.

6. Tilapia poached in a sauce made of soy sauce, water, wine, onion, ginger, and sugar is amazingly good.

Also awesome Q words: QI(S) and QAT(S). Ever since QI was addded to the OWL, I've stopped saving U's out of fear that I'd need them.

*makes note of QAT*

So far my two most AAAGGGHHH! moment were when one opponent got two bingoes in a row, and then when [livejournal.com profile] janni scored 50 points by placing one letter. (X, at an intersection that spelled EX and XI, and was on a triple word score.)

then when janni scored 50 points by placing one letter. (X, at an intersection that spelled EX and XI, and was on a triple word score.)
Yeah, that's definitely happened to me. Sometimes with the Q or Z too, which means 60 points with one letter! It definitely makes me wary of putting vowels next to bonus spaces.

Some icon makers seem to feel amazingly entitled, don't they? Anytime I see those huge rules and disclaimers posts, I have to restrain myself from asking if they realize that they are talking about their unauthorized altering of trademarked material.

I especially love when they post about how hard they worked on an icon when I could make the same in 4-5 minutes(I have, in fact, done just that multiple times, just as a test)

*views making icons as a way to relax that saves other people time*

And your cat is totally dreaming about how your Bleach action figures will taste.

That whole "I don't make bases!" really tweaks me. Not that I had intended to take their icons and put text on them, but because it makes me want to take their icons and put text on them solely out of spite.

And there is a serious lack of stupidly funny icons out there. I'm on 3 or 4 different icon communities just on the off chance a good funny Bleach or Death Note one shows up, and they almost never do, just lots of emo ones with song lyrics in almost-illegible type or challenge one with one or two words in some attempt to look profound.

She probably is. She's been remarkably good about not touching them - tried to once, and I yelled at her, and it scared her. XD

[identity profile] meganbmoore.livejournal.com 2007-12-16 05:17 am (UTC)(link)
I generally just make whatever kind of icon one turns into, myself. Usually funny or just pretty...I did make some funny Bleach ones as therapy a while back though(well...I thought they were funny...)

(oh, and people reading...I am obsessed with reading icons)

But seriously, if it takes more than 10 minutes or I start having trouble getting it to do what I want, I give up. Icon making should be fun, not a hassle.

I wish my parents' cats were that well trained...

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2007-12-16 05:24 am (UTC)(link)
This seems to be the only thing for which she's well-trained. XD

[identity profile] meganbmoore.livejournal.com 2007-12-16 05:27 am (UTC)(link)
Well hey, at least she's trained for SOMETHING!

Yeah, usually it's the crappy makers who have all the rules anyway.

i pretty much always make my fish that way. ^^

steamed fish is yummy, too. :D

I rarely make fish, and when I do, it's usually salmon, with this mustard sauce that I have to find again when I go to Mom's for Christmas. XD

[identity profile] celestriad.livejournal.com 2007-12-16 05:54 am (UTC)(link)
well, i don't have fish much, either, otherwise making it the same way every time would get old kind of quickly. ^^;

i think the stuff i had the most of was cod fillets, and i sometimes like to sprinkle salt, cooking wine, black pepper, and a tiny bit of sugar on it, then coat it in corn starch and pan fry it with ginger and green onions. pouring a small amount of soy sauce on it afterwards pretty much completes some yummy fish. :)

but hm, salmon with mustard sauce, huh? i've never had that before.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2007-12-16 05:55 am (UTC)(link)
It's a wonderful, wonderful sauce, but alas, all I can remember of the ingredients is mustard powder and an egg (it's a cooked sauce).

Hrm, I got it from InStyle magazine a few years back - wonder if they keep a recipe database?

preliminary efforts to find such a recipe have failed me, but i can look into it.

never mind... the faq says they don't archive their recipes.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2007-12-16 06:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I think Mom's still got the page I ripped out of the magazine, so I'll try to remember to look for it when I go home for Christmas. :)

perhaps kitty is dreaming of one of those 'do not fear' mice the Japanese recently came up with - sounds a little manga, Fearless Mouse, hmmm, tasty!

I will be contrary and say I've made icons like this one which looks ridiculously easy in a crop-and-paste way but actually took me 2+ hours to edit out all the text bubbles and random lines on top of it. (Making icons of specific minor characters is good because your source is limited and you have to get CREATIVE.) But people are welcome to alter it however they please!
