Hah!
Had a meeting today about a presentation the Systems department is giving to the rest of the staff on Web 2.0 in January. I'm covering social networking* including Facebook and Myspace. The assistant dean said she knew I had a Facebook, but did I have a Myspace? I said no, but that I could have one by the time of the presentation, and she said good.
Know that that means? I get to make a Myspace page on work time.
(But if any of you know of libraries with Myspace pages, plz to feel free to be posting them kthx.)
* And have about 5 minutes in which to do it, so it's going to be the briefest of briefs.

Web 2.0 in 4:33
My favorite explanation of Web 2.0 in under 5 minutes is "Web 2.0 ... The Machine is Us/ing Us" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NLlGopyXT_g) by Michael Wesch, Assistant Professor of Cultural Anthropology at Kansas State University. That link has further links to higher-quality downloads.
TED (http://www.ted.com/) also has many fascinating talks on improving the world through networking and better information display, among other things, but it's quite the timesink of amazement.
Will you be posting your talk / presentation materials to your new Myspace account? Or somewhere?

or to quote -
"The Indian Trail Public Library also has a MySpace account, as does the Schaumburg Township District Library and the Arlington Heights Memorial Library. Just go to www.myspace.com, use the search engine and put in the name of the library. The site should be among the ones on the first results page."

On the off chance you haven't already seen them: SnapLayout (http://www.snaplayout.com/) looks good, and Mike Davidson (http://www.mikeindustries.com/blog/archive/2006/04/hacking-myspace-layouts) pretty much wrote the book on making MySpace pages suck less.

I can tell you, the first thing I did was search out the setting that automatically turns music on other people's pages off.
