telophase: (manji - not happy)

this is just not my month...

Went to put my iPod on and listen to some music and discovered that inexplicably all my music had vanished from it, although not the podcasts or video. I am HOPING that I did a boneheaded thing and managed to sync it when I updated the video on it so that it synced away all the music, rather than it being a hardware or software fault. I am in the process of taking all my mp3s from their backup discs (I am not entirely stupid; it's all backed up) and putting them on the hard drive so I can just sync the whole damn thing. And am putting thought into an external HD to use as a music/audio backup to make syncing easier. (The iPod Classic really wants you to sync instead of manually moving stuff over, which is far less dangerous. Aarg. Wonder if Anapod Explorer works on Vista?)

Expressions of sympathy welcome, if you feel like giving them, or similar tales of woe, but PLEASE no advice: I have been inundated with advice from every quarter about everything that's happened this past month and I am so damn tired of people telling me what I should do that I do not respond well to advice; instead, I get cranky and take it out on the hapless adviser.

I know very little of ipods, not having one, though I feel the fact that my speakers keep dying about once a week gives me some minor justification to say that I, too, feel technological woes. Though clearly not on the same level.

Woe!

I once wiped all my ratings in some horrible sync accident (the music lives on Chad's computer, mostly). It was a giant pain in the ass, but at least the music was still there. I hope your software and hardware are fine.

(I am *this close* to needing a bigger external hard drive, and when I get it, I'll replace his at the same time and put both in a safe deposit box, or maybe get an extra and swap them in and out.)

Holy f*ing shit. Your month is terrible!!! I have no ipod advice whatsoever. I've got a bunch of good luck themed TALs though, that helped me through the Recent Upheaval that is the doom that has been my life of late, and I'd be happy to send some to you or annoint a candle for you here, or anything of that sort, if you'd like. Or you know, I could just send some chocolate. Or copics. Or a cheering thing of your choice.

Anointing a candle or something might work, especially as my mother has been here for several days, so the Fiery Wall of Protection has been sitting unused until she leaves. :)

It's just one damn thing after another, and I have learned not to say "It can only go up from here!"

No kidding. I'm lighting some candles for you today!

Thank you! :D

I have no advice, I can't even create a playlist on my Sansa. (I blame myself; perhaps if I hadn't named it Sanzo it would be more cooperative.)

Ah~ I had such problems too. =_=
God, it's so much work to put all the mp3s back on that stupid thing!
Good luck!

On my flight out to Boise last Wednesday, as soon as they okayed the turning on of approved electronics, I fired up my iPod...

...which immediately froze.

And I could not for the life of me remember the "reboot" sequence. Tried mashing most of the buttons anyway, nothing worked.

So then I fire up my laptop. I needed to read my brother's novel draft anyway, and there's some music on there...

...only to discover that, despite not running it off the battery anytime recently that I can recall, the power was down to less than 25%. So it lasted about half an hour, and then there I was, no music, no nothing...

...across the aisle from the only screaming baby on the plane.

My sympathies! My iPod, after being psychotic for a loooong time, (it wiped my music off a couple times too >_< I feel your pain) up and died on me recently - I am debating whether I want to cough up the money for a new one -__-;; , or wait for the next shiny thing to be released.

Oooooo! I'm so sorry to hear your iPod has misbehaved!

This time of year the radio is almost unbearable too - it's either all ads or all jinglie - not that it's all that listenable the rest of the year either :(

My iPod did the same thing, and when I tried to reload it I ran into the same syncing thing - now I'm carrying an old cdplayer everywhere and listening to the same disk over and over and over :P

Oh well, at least it makes trancing out at work easer ^_^

Good luck - I'll light a candle to it being just an updating/syncing gremlin instead of something more permanent.

Can I just say that you're way more together than I am? Cause I'm pretty sure that my music ISN'T backed up to my external HD, and even if it was, if I lost it in a crash, I'd be left to re-enter 1,567 songs by hand.

*thinks about this and starts twitching*

:) Spend $40 on Anapod Explorer, and it'll give you the ability to copy everything off like it's a regular drive (this is assuming you run Windows), which makes it easy-easy to back up all the stuff.

I don't have a pc, so, *shrugs.*

Ow ow ow, woe woe woe ... !

>hug!<

It's at times like this that I really wonder whether I should be lusting after an iPod.
