There's a reason we may not be worrying about the vole (and perhaps a number of finches) for too much longer...





This magnificent orange fellow is one of three cats we've spotted in our backyard, although this is the first time we've seen him this close. Sora is on the cat tree to the left, just out of sight, and Nefer is investigating. She sniffed the window a bit, then made a noise that wasn't a growl, but not a regular meow either, which I translate as "You better watch yourself, bub," and then deliberately turned her back on him and walked off.

There's a tuxedo cat who's come calling at the end of the deck, and I've forgotten the third one, perhaps a calico? They're all owned by someone or someones in the neighborhood, as they're well-fed and while skittish, not so skittish as ferals are. And at least 2 of them have collars--the orange gentleman* was wearing one the last time we saw him, although he seems to have divested himself of it in the meantime.


* We're assigning a gender for convenience, as we didn't get close enough to check!
