Your Score: The Otter

Here's your results! Your spirit animal has a Nobility ranking of 11 out of 18.

Your spirit animal is the otter. Playful, curious and fun animals, they are truly the start of what can be considered a noble creature. Otters are good at figuring things out, and make great friends. You are lucky to have one as a spirit animal. Otters are fairly rare as spirit animals.

***Wondering how this animal was chosen for you? These questions were carefully thought out to see how important you hold certain virtues such as: humanism, self-knowledge, rationalism, the love of freedom and other somewhat Hellenic ideals. Some of the questions were very subtle. Your score was then matched with an animal of corresponding nobility. However, you shouldn't think this was a right/wrong sort of test, but more of an idealistic values test. It's ok to not hold these values, you'll just get an animal spirit of lower stature if you do!***

At first glance, I thought "What an interesting quiz ... I'd never thought of a cloud of mosquitoes as a totem animal!" ... .

You need Afterbite® for your mozzie bites. Or failing that, see if your building services people have some household ammonia ... that's the active ingrediant in Afterbite. Dab a couple of drops on your bites - they'll itch a lot less. (I also recently read that applying Scotch tape will fix them - even if it doesn't work, you'll have a topic of converation with your colleagues, as they wonder why you have little bits of tape all over your legs ... )

Our boring Security folks have blocked OK Cupid, so I'll have to wait. I like the idea of an otter for you!

On one of the wanks involving furries, people with spirit animals, otherkin, or something like that over on otf_wank, the comment thread I participated in was started by someone making the (usual) observation that people never seem to have/be uncool animals, like lampreys or something. It's always wolves or foxes or whatnot. So we all promptly started claiming to be various odd animals. I was a colony of fire ants.

There was some similar wank, and I have no idea how it started, but someone made fun of a typo or something, and we all started claiming to be castles. I was able to leap in and claim to be Neuschwanstein before anyone else did. :D

Right now, my brain feels like I must be Candleston Castle!

I am The Wolf. Ooo. Shiny. I have no idea what that means, though.

bites

Could it be fleas?

You don't have to have pets to get them in your apartment.

[identity profile] badnoodles.livejournal.com 2007-07-12 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
If they are under your desk, they are most likely the southern house mosquito, Culex pipiens quinquefasciatus. These mosquitoes can breed in any sort of water or vessel including a 20-oz bottle cap. They've been known to breed in houseplants, ill-drained sinks, and ant farms. Get rid of the breeding site, and the mosquitoes will soon disappear.

More likely, they are coming in from outside somehow, especially considering all the recent rain. Make sure your window screens are nice and tight if you leave windows open regularly, and any commercial repellent such as Off or Skin So Soft should keep them at bay (though stinky, DEET is effective the longest). Something like Benadryl anti-itch stick or campho-phenique/calamine lotion should quell the itch, though there are a million homebrew remedies.

Are you sure it's mosquitoes and not chiggers?

No, definitely mosquitos - they've got the AAH GOD ITCHEEES! feeling that I don't get from flea bites, plus they're all on areas that weren't under clothing. There seems to be mosquitos always hanging around just outside my front door, so I expect they come in that way.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2007-07-12 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, chiggers always end up in creases and around joints and where clothing starts/stops for me, plus collecting in small areas. These are fairly evenly spaced all over my feet - I was wandering around barefoot yesterday, plus I tend to regulate my temperature when sleeping by sticking my feet out. I suppose I'll have to turn the A/C down lower for a few nights so I can cover up under the sheet.

There always seem to be mosquitos loitering outside my front door; I wouldn't be surprised if they come in that way.

Maybe there's a drain or something out there that's housing them?

We have a drain in our back concrete area that has water in it (it's supposed to) year-round and I drop one of those "Mosquito Dunks" in it once in a while. It has made a difference!

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2007-07-12 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
Up until about two days ago, it had rained every day for six weeks. I think everywhere's a drain now. XD

Turns out I'm a wolf. But I bet that's because they don't have a dog, which is probably closer to the mark on any number of factors ... .

Your Score: The Porcupine

Here's your results! Your spirit animal has a Nobility ranking of 8 out of 18.

Your spirit animal is the porcupine. They are considered only slightly noble for their remakably defensive quills. Still, they are slow and uncuddly creatures. As a spirit animal, porcupines are pretty common, and typically are guardians of those with an average nobility and wisdom.

***Wondering how this animal was chosen for you?
