Name That Mustache!

And now for those of you that have read or are currently reading the Mahabharata over on [livejournal.com profile] reading_maha, it's time for a rousing game of ...

Name that Mustache!

All taken from scans of my Amar Chitra Katha comics, and yeah, two of them aren't from the Mahabharata, but I think you'll survive.

[Poll #956794]

P.S. You can check your answers by right-clicking on the image, choosing View Image, and checking the filename. :) But it's cheating to do it before you pick!

And one more picture, because [livejournal.com profile] rachelmanija will have a spasm and die if I don't...

That? Best. Poll. Ever. I seriously think I injured myself laughing.

Also, it was surprisingly difficult!

PS. Thanks for the lazy reptile!

Wow, that was hard. I only got four right.

Um, did you notice that the same pic of Shivaji is up there twice?

[identity profile] steelehearts.livejournal.com 2007-03-30 08:23 am (UTC)(link)
yay! i got most of them right! yippeee!
awesome poll, i must say.

Er, I was , uh, testing you! That's right! Testing you!

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2007-03-30 11:37 am (UTC)(link)
Hee. :) The artists had fun designing the mustaches, I think, because just about everyone had a different style. In some places, it's the only way you can tell any of the Pandavas apart. XD

Since I seem to have accidentally posted Shivaji's mustache twice, instead of Shakuni, who has a pretty distinctive mustache, here is Shakuni:

And one of those Shivajis was supposed to be Shakuni: Image

I didn't get Arjuna's and didn't answer the question. The rest I got right, I know. Will check later. :)

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2007-03-30 12:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Are you sure about that...? ;)

[identity profile] goldenflames.livejournal.com 2007-03-30 06:11 pm (UTC)(link)
I think I got all but the one of Arjuna's, which makes me wonder, does this put us on a new level of Mahabharata obsession?

And anyone else think that Duryodhana's mustache is physically impossible? I mean, he'd probably have to trim it into that particular shape to get it to grow like that, and if that is the case, then he shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a throne. All kings need a proper mustache.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2007-03-30 06:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it's really close to an Hercule Poirot (http://atuleirus.weblog.com.pt/arquivo/Hercule%20Poirot.jpg), but it's probably a high-maintenance mustache, so he spends hours grooming it that he should be using to, say, rule his kingdom.

Though what he's doing taking advice from someone whose mustache looks like a dead spider crawling out of his nose, I'll never know.

[identity profile] goldenflames.livejournal.com 2007-03-30 06:25 pm (UTC)(link)
That explains it then. I'd think that he'd be better off sans mustache, I mean, one less bit of a hair to pull while wrestling.

And now I know why Shakuni hates the Kurus so much. Bhishma must have pulled a Krishna and forcibly shaved off his objectionable mustache at some point. It's what I would have done.

Slightly OT, or not about Duryodhana's gravity-defying moustache, anyway

When I was traveling in Rajasthan once, I made the mistake of remarking aloud upon a passing Rajput man's particularly excellent moustache (http://www.arco-iris.com/George/images/rajput.jpg). Thereafter, the guy I had hired to drive me around felt that he would not be adequately performing his job if he did not alert me every time a Rajput with a good moustache came into view. This got old after a while, as there are many Rajputs in Rajasthan, and many of them cultivate impressive moustaches.

[identity profile] rachelmanija.livejournal.com 2007-03-30 06:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Wasn't it Bhima who did that?

There's a footnote I came across that said that Bhishma starved Shakuni's brothers to death, and his dice are made from their bones and haunted by their spirits...

[identity profile] marith.livejournal.com 2007-03-30 07:49 pm (UTC)(link)
what an awesome reptile! I am totally stealing that image, unless you object.

(Please tell me it manifests divine powers in the very next panel and eats the guy.)

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2007-03-30 07:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Steal away! Unfortunately, Tanaji speaks the truth about its divine powers. They're using it as a grappling hook. :)

[identity profile] goldenflames.livejournal.com 2007-03-30 08:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I heard that too. I've also heard that his dice were made out of his father's bones.

Because it wouldn't do its job and obligingly scrabble up the wall/cliff on its own accord?

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2007-04-01 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, basically. XD
