Manga!

Or, actually, manga yet to come. After [livejournal.com profile] coffeeandink posted her January manga recommendations, I went through Amazon.com to see what-all I read was out, and aagh! So much! And since my local Borders doesn't carry some of them it would take forever to run around town seeking them, and I'd end up ordering some anyway, so I figured I'd order them from Amazon. And then remembered that Mom is always telling me I should have let her order them, because she has that free 2-day shipping thing. So I did. It added up to about $100 - looks like Amazon is having a 4-for-3 sale on some titles, but I don't know which, but I got one free - and Mom said she'd give me a $50 Valentine's Day gift, so I only owe her $50. I like shopping at Amazon.com. I should really do it more often.

re: BPAL. I ordered the limited edition Purple Phoenix on a whim from someone on the LJ comm. The description is:

Porphyrogenitus, indeed; we worked for it! Not simply the color of royalty, purple is also the color of sorrow and mourning, reconciliation and forgiveness. A regal, majestic, and somber blend of myrrh, plum blossom, African violet, cognac, fig, orris, lilac, wisteria, black plum, and Burgundy wine grapes.

When I first smelled it, it was cold from sitting in the mailbox and smelled like strong grape juice. Which weirded me out slightly because all the forum reviews I'd read mentioned that it smelled floral. But after it warmed up, it became much more floral. Not flowery, but sharp. It only lasted about two hours on me, but I rahter liked it - it was floral for a while, then the grape came back out, but softer than grape juice, and then it just went ... purple. I kind of like it. It's one of the girlier perfumes I've got, but sometimes ya just feel girly, she says, having just ordered a bloody samurai manga and two about an embalmer.

Manga purchasing!!!! Always a pleasure XD

I buy my mangas mostly on Amazon or in an comic store (only anime/mangas) nearby where they can reserve you orders.

I'm gonna take the freedom to add a manga to your recomendation list:
I's by Masakazu Katsura (I think it's pronounced "eyes"). Maybe not your style, but it's well-done.

My closest anime/manga store is a 45 minute drive away when it's not rush hour, woes. I like browsing through a huge selection, but I knew there was no way that the Borders would get some of these - they never carry Dokebi Bride, for some reason.

I'll keep an eye out for it, thanks! :D

I have Amazon Prime like your mom. Best thing EVAH OMG, except when I need manga now now now. Sometimes I pick it up at the local Borders if I can't wait the two days and they have it in stock, which isn't very often. Mostly I go to the Borders to have someplace to escape work, and then get sucked in.

I love my Friday lunchtime escapes to Borders. The school's shut down another parking lot or two here, however, as they build more dorms and stuff, and thus I have to take lunch at about 2 if I want to be assured of a reasonably close parking space when I get back, even on Fridays. :D Ah well, when I go to Borders I end up driving through the Chik-Fil-A for lunch and love Chik-Fil-A as I might, deep-fried chicken nuggets and waffle fries is not exactly what I need right now. XD

We'll see how long I manage to stay away from Borders this month.

They finally got us a gated staff parking lot, but it fills fast. Yesterday I escaped to Borders and succumbed to a bunch of Mely's recommendations and then I hit the McDs on the way back and got chicken selects and fries. That's so....not on the diet. My best friend and diet buddy is gonna kick my ass for that one. I need to find something that feels decadent, but isn't. And can be eaten while reading.

I could spend $250/year and get an assigned parking space three blocks away from the library, or spend $75/year and get a tag good for most of the general lots and get to work by 7:55 AM and get a parking space in the lot right next to the library. So far the cheaper option has won out, but if they shut down any more lots so I have to get here by 7:30, I may look seriously at the expensive option.

I have yet to find a good food that feels decadent but isn't.
