Bike today: 20 min/3.5 miles
Total: 6.6 mi.
Out of Hobbiton, into Tookland, nearing the Green Hill Country.

Also watched Slayers while doing this: I've discovered that I get the channel called Colours, which for 3 or so hours every evening becomes the Funamation channel and shows anime. They're showing Slayers right now, so I've set the TiVo to catch it. It's been about 7 years since I've seen it, and it still holds up. They're also near the beginning - Zelgadis has captured Lina and Rezo has shown up for the first time.

I've been watching the Funimation block on Colours since they started it. The only thing wrong with it is that they haven't added any new episodes of any of the series for a while. They've shown the complete FB and Spiral at least three times (maybe more for Spiral), and Yu Yu Hakusho always seems to restart just before the end of the Saint Beasts arc.

I've noticed they keep advertising lots of anime in the approximately-every-three-minutes commercial breaks: you'd think they could actually show some of it. :)

My TiVo found Gokusen on EWAM, and I watched all 13 episodes they showed. i wonder if it's ever been translated, or barring that, are there any scanlations out there?

EWAM has also been showing Saiyuki Reload and Mirage of something-or-other.

I can't help watching Spiral each time through though. Yes, the ending sucks because nothing gets explained, but I really like anime with very smart characters, and there's one scene with Ayumu and Hiyono in the train station that always gets me.

I watched the first episode of Spiral some time ago and it didn't grab me. Is it the sort of thing that improves as it goes on, or is the first episode representative?

(woo - found a place that I think has the first 5 volumes of Gokusen up! Hopefully!)

The first episode isn't the best. Ayumu is sullen, Hiyono treats him like a criminal, and the first villain isn't very interesting. The series becomes interesting in the third episode, imo.

I may set the TiVo to catch it then, and see if it holds my attention. :)

YAY SLAYERS!

I was forcing it on [livejournal.com profile] naria_teal just the other day, in fact. And I have to say that, even after all these years, it's still one of my all time favorite anime series. Go go Lina! (And Funimation is finally releasing a DVD boxset of it! Squee!)

I would recommend watching more of it, because it's actually a really well put together series (despite the fact that the ending is completely inconclusive. >.>;; It's always so much fun when the anime gets ahead of the manga...). I love the show to pieces, if only because Hiyono pwns all. xD

Yes, she does. And it's a series where the genki female character and the sullen male character really do form a great relationship that you can see working as a lifelong marriage.
