BookMooch

...because [livejournal.com profile] rachelmanija made me do it. My BookMooch page. I already had three mooch requests within an hour of signing up and posting some books.

BookMooch is an online service for swapping books - you list books you've got and are willing to send out, and make a wishlist of books you're looking for. You get points for sending books out and spend them on mooching books from others. If you've got a BookMooch account, let me know and we can be squishy BookMooch fwiends.

...and, yeah, Death Note 4 is on there because I accidentally bought it twice.

I've got a BookMooch account (two guesses what the name is :-p) but I've yet to put anything on it because I am lazy.

I'd go add your sad, empty account as a friend but their server seems to have just gone down. XD

My sad, empty, friendless account.

Maybe once I finish my obsessive LibraryThing cataloguing I will convince myself to actually purge my manga via BookMooch or something.

(The hardbacks I expect you will have to pry from my cold dead hands...)

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-11-10 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not going to purge a lot of manga through BookMooch because my local Half-Price Books is currently offering about twice what they normally do for books of that price for manga, and that way I don't have to spend money on postage for it. But I've got a couple of yaoi manga that I don't think HPB will take due to porniness, so I'll put those up.

[identity profile] mscongeniality.livejournal.com 2006-11-10 03:50 am (UTC)(link)
I have vowed to not take books to the used book shop up the street any more because they give such a rotten deal on them*. She'd probably take my manga but it wouldn't be anywhere near worth it to give them to her.

*They only give store credit and you're not allowed to use more than 50% store credit on any purchase and you can't use store credit at all on used graphic novels.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-11-10 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
Good lord. HPB doesn't give a hugely great deal - they pay approximately 10% of what they think they can get for a book*, which should be about 50 cents for a $10 manga, but they paid me $1 each for a bunch of them a few months ago. I could technically get more by swapping for them or selling them on eBay or LJ, but it's a hassle to get rid of a ton of books that way, and so much easier to haul the box into HPB and dump it on the counter and have done with it.

* I found out from a friend who worked for them a whole ago that they'd pay more for books that are in demand, and would also inch the price up if you bought books from them, so I tend to ostentatiously carry books around near the selling counter as they're tallying my offer. XD

Be my squishy BookMooch fwiend! [/shameless link whoring]

FREE BOOKS OMG. I can't believe I never heard of this before, like, yesterday.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-11-10 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
SQUISH! SQUISH!

I'd heard of it, but hadn't bothered to really look at it. It was finding that someone had an Eerie, Indiana book up for mooching that made me join. With luck he won't reject my mooch request. :)

[identity profile] louiselux.livejournal.com 2006-11-10 10:25 am (UTC)(link)
My account (http://bookmooch.com/m/inventory/hedda) is still empty. Woe. It also needs squishes.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-11-10 02:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I squish you!!

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-11-10 02:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooh - looks like they've got Eerie, Indiana books on there. I may have to join there as well...

I am suspicious of their "We're gonna make you pay for this at some point mwahahaha!"-ness. And they won't let me trade my ARCs, woe!

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-11-10 02:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll throw some books up there and see if I manage to get any of the Eerie, Indiana books in exchange. If so .. wooo!

[identity profile] magicnoire.livejournal.com 2006-11-10 03:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Gawd, I go nuts on Bookmooch. Here's my account: http://bookmooch.com/m/bio/inkstone

That first week, I had like 10 requests. Everyone wanted my trashy paranormal romance and pr0ny LKH novels. LOL

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-11-10 03:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee. The three things I'm mailing today are all fantasy - two urban fantasy and Decoy Princess which I hated with a passion. I'm eyeing my bookshelves speculatively, trying to work out what should go and what shouldn't. XD

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-11-10 09:01 pm (UTC)(link)
What's your name there? I see if I'm referred by a member they'll give that member a credit. :)

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-11-10 09:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Signed up now. Once I get home and list 9 books you should get a credit. :)

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-11-11 05:26 am (UTC)(link)
You are totally not kidding about the manga going fast. O.o I've got six volumes packaged and waiting by the door for me to drop in the mailbox tomorrow.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-11-11 06:19 am (UTC)(link)
Once I get credited for all of these things, I can get the rest of the Eerie, Indiana books that are listed. Yay! I've already requested three, and I am waiting impatiently for the people who listed them to log on and see that I want them. WHY ARE THEY NOT LIVING ONLINE 24/7 IN ORDER TO SEND ME MY BOOKS?

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-11-11 06:30 am (UTC)(link)
I've wishlisted all of the Eerie, Indiana books that are in their database (I should go and doublecheck that all of the books are there, actually) as well as various and sundry things from my Amazon wishlist, so hopefully I should get them if they're posted. And I've seen a couple of things that tempt me, BUT I AM SAVING MY CREDITS FOR EERIE!!!!
