*pokes internet* Anybody out there?

Aarg, today and yesterday have been frustrating - nobody's returning my email (including the bloody pet sitters who I desperately need to engage by FRIDAY), my vacuum cleaner gave up the ghost right before I got to cleaning up the kitty litter around the cat box, I've got a column to write that should go up next week (this week's has been written and in my editor's inbox since last week), and really ought to write one to go up the week after next because the last thing I want to do when I get home from the cruise is bash out a column, and I ordered a book from Amazon.com six weeks ago that I find out finally shipped and was delivered ... on the 21st ... to who-knows-where, so I have to first phone the apartment office tomorrow and see if there's just no note on my door and they ahve it, or if it's lost somewhere in which case I go bitch at Amazon.com. And nobody's buying my BPAL bottles because the next full moon is at the end of enxt week and everyon and their dog is trying to sell to get money for it (I did check and nobody else is buying anything from anyone else, either, which makes me feel only a little bit better). I suppose if I dropped the price a chunk, I'd get rid of them. Hrm. I was feeling quite poor and hoped to be able to shunt that off to my credit card this week. Oh well. And Firefox is doing that weird intermittent thing where a single quote typed in a text box makes it go to the next line. (I've already gone over all the possible bugfixes for this with a friend, none of which worked, and I am Not Interested in constructive advice, I am interesting in whining.)

World, here is Mello's fabulous ass. You are cordially invited to bite it.

*pokes back*

I am on page 45 of a 60 page brief, writing notes to myself of the form "fix this!! add that!!", and taking a break before finishing the other 15 pages so I can go to bed, sweet sweet bed.

Yep, world, bite, etc.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-10-25 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
Fun.

I'm also vaguely worried about packing and am terrified I'll forget something important, like my Lact-Aid or my passport or the seasick patches, and I hate all the clothes I own, but since I'm in my current state of feeling poor due to actually purchasing clothes for the cruise*, that's not going to do me any good.

At least I now own a fabulous black velvet jacket whose sleeves have been taken up so they don't reach my knees:

* All of which look remarkably like my other clothes, except they fit me slightly better and are less faded from the wash.

I am Not Interested in constructive advice

Well.

I was going to suggest lighting some incense, performing some chants, and sacrificing a small furry mammal, but since you don't want advice...

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-10-25 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
That would probably work better than anything else I've tried.

[identity profile] tokyoghoststory.livejournal.com 2006-10-25 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
lact-aid? the world of lactose intolerance is a cruel cruel place.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-10-25 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
Yep. I have not had a bite of dairy since 1991 without feeling apprehensive if it's going to be a bad one or not, because sometimes even the Lact-Aid doens't work, or only partly works. It would be nice to wander into an ice-cream store and buy a cone, but I pretty much limit that sort of indulgence to times when I'm at home, Just In Case.

[identity profile] tokyoghoststory.livejournal.com 2006-10-25 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
yeah its pretty lame. i have intermitten gastrointestional issues. i don't think i can handle lactose too well, so i've moved over to mostly almond milk (which is amazing) & lactaid milk (its so good in food ;;). i also can't have too much soy. it makes me feel like i have the worst bellyache in the nation. i used to know this guy who looked like he had a chemical peel after he would eat anything with lactose. sadly the lactaid pills only half work for him too. they need to better these things!

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-10-25 02:56 am (UTC)(link)
Chemical peel? He must also have some sort of milk allergy to go with the intolerance. Funfun.

My only actual food allergy seems to be to foods that are not a natural shade of orange: Chee-Tos, Kraft mac & cheese, and the like. My mouth breaks out if I eat something like that.

[identity profile] tokyoghoststory.livejournal.com 2006-10-25 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
im allergic to RAW carrots. not cooked ones. which is really awkward. as well as pineapples, but a lot of random fuits with make my face and lips itch.

i'd be so sad if i was allergic to mac&cheese

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-10-25 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
I have a friend who is allergic to the world, basically. She's allergic to raw tomatoes, but whatever it is that she's allergic to gets destroyed or broken down in cooking, so she can eat cooked tomatoes no problem.

I was sad when I figured out that my mouth breaking out corresponded to the mac & cheese, because mac & cheese with sliced home-grown tomatoes is a comfort food to me (er, on the side, not mixed in with the mac & cheese). Sometimes I just do it anyway, and be very very careful not to get too much on my lips so I look funny when I eat, but since I eat it at home alone due to the possible side effects from the lactose, it's not a big deal. :)

[identity profile] tokyoghoststory.livejournal.com 2006-10-25 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
hahah big huge wide gulps of mac&cheese. aww. i tried to eat organic last week and had...mac&cheese made with wheat noddles? and white cheese? oh gosh, it was so not good. i was like "plz, give me my nonorganic mac&neoncheese". i used to eat it doused in hotsauce (before all the insane gastroissues) and my roomates would be like "uhhhhh ickickick" but it was so good to me.

i only found out i was allergic to raw carrots and pineapples when i was actually trying to eat healthier and lower my blood pressure. i was like "way to go, im trying to do good here and you thwart me!"

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-10-25 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
Hee. :D At work the toher day, some of the Tech Services people were talking at lunch about someone they knew who was allergic to most fruits and vegetables, and had some other weird condition where the doctors were basically prescribing lots of unhealthy foods for her. I don't remember any details, unfortunately.

My mom found out a couple of years ago that she's developed an allergy to mangoes - her lips swell up. I have no idea if I'm allergic to them or not, but the point is moot, since I hate them. XD

[identity profile] tokyoghoststory.livejournal.com 2006-10-25 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
mango mouth ;;.

i adore mangos. but this is because i'm spanish & i assume by some weird law, i should love the fruit of my country. or something. i have a friend who gets sick when he eats healthy. something's wrong with our world's nutrition. haah

[identity profile] dragovianknight.livejournal.com 2006-10-25 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
I would, in fact, buy two of your bottles, but I don't get paid for a few days. Woe unto us both!

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-10-25 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
Woes! Well, if nobody picks any up in the next day or two let me know and I'll hold 'em for you until after I get back. :)

[identity profile] dragovianknight.livejournal.com 2006-10-25 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
That sounds suspiciously like a plan! :D

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-10-25 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
Woo-hoo! I'd hold 'em for you right now except for my OH GOD I HAVE NO MONEY MUST PAY CREDIT CARD panic. Which will subside in a day or so, since I should get my paycheck deposited on Thursday or Friday. :D

[identity profile] marith.livejournal.com 2006-10-25 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
If any of your bpal bottles happen to be Morocco I will happily buy them off you; it seems to be the perfect scent for me, and so I er haven't even gotten around to trying most of the Poe ones you sent.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-10-25 03:41 am (UTC)(link)
Sorry, nope, all four are recent LE scents - two moons and two from teh Order of the Dragon. :)

I havne't tried Morocco yet, I don't think. Hm.

[identity profile] frostedelves.livejournal.com 2006-10-25 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
She might be okay with the magoes again if she (has someone else) wash the sap off and then peel them first. Apparently a lot of people are swelly about the outer sap, but some can eat the inside meat fine if the mango is thoroughly washed and peeled first.

I don't like them either, but I'm happy I got to say "inside meat."

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-10-25 03:53 am (UTC)(link)
Huh. That's interesting. :)

You said "inside meat." Huhr-hur-hur

[identity profile] frostedelves.livejournal.com 2006-10-25 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
Some people love them, so I thought it might be nice to mention it in case your mom is full of woe about the allergy.

Delicious inside meat. Heh heh.

Oh, which reminds me I took a picture of a Sanzo cosplayer at Y-con just for you.

[identity profile] pzb.livejournal.com 2006-10-25 04:00 am (UTC)(link)
So long as this week doesn't continue down this path... My suggestion is, should tomorrow continue on this road, find a nice dark closet and bury yourself in it until the end of the week. I wish I had last week. (at least my boss is now out of town until next week, so I don't have to worry about that aspect of the rest of my week....assuming the cat doesn't projectile overnight.....)

[identity profile] thomasyan.livejournal.com 2006-10-25 04:57 am (UTC)(link)
I hope things improve for you soon. Right now, jet lag and work anxiety = insomnia = the world sucks for me. Well, Heroes episodes 3 and 4 were kind of amusing.

[identity profile] usmangaka.livejournal.com 2006-10-25 08:23 am (UTC)(link)
Leave us alone, we're watching porn.

[identity profile] maxineofarc.livejournal.com 2006-10-25 01:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, nobody wants to buy my BPAL either. A few years ago, the secondary market was pretty booming, but nowadays unless you have your hands on, say, F54 or Shub or something, nobody's really interested in buying. I do have a third of a bottle of Spooky left, but I really *like* it, so alas, the one thing I might be able to make a little cash on, I don't wanna sell.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-10-25 01:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I can usually make back almost what I paid - I tend to lowball the price just to get them out of the house and it makes people go "ZOMG! Only $15 with shipping for [X LE]?? YES!" but last night was a combination of me not really wanting to go low enough due to OMG CREDIT CARD PANIC and everyone trying to sell to get ready for the Lunacy next week, I think.

I've only ever put one on eBay, and that was 2/3 of a bottle of Lump of Coal that I got in the Inquisition, and ended up getting $40 for it. I had more fun than anything else with that because I'd spent two weeks beforehand gathering up chocolate-themed freebies from various places, so I had all sorts of candy, cocoa chai tea (I think), chocolate incense, etc. The woman who won it emailed me to tell me she'd gotten the package after she'd come back from visiting a very sick friend in the hospital and it went a long way towards cheering her up, so it was all quite worth it. :D

[identity profile] maxineofarc.livejournal.com 2006-10-25 01:59 pm (UTC)(link)
*laugh* I don't do freebies, unfortunately, which then has the added effect of making me look like a jerk just because everybody else does it. I'll usually toss in an extra imp or two, but otherwise, I tend just to think of them as a business transaction. Of course, I tend to think of BPAL as just perfume, too, and would have to kill myself if I ever started calling it "the preciousss" like some of those girls do. I'm no fun at all.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-10-25 02:06 pm (UTC)(link)
:D I don't mind the freebie thing, since people insist on sending me freebies of tea I'll never drink (I like boring tea - English Breakfast, for the most part), it keeps me from feeling guilty for throwing it away to put it back in circulation. I've been quite tempted to put a discreet mark on some of the packages of tea and see how long it takes for them to circulate back to me again. XD I also use it to get rid of imps I don't want but that nobody's buying. :)

Yeah, it's jsut perfume - perfume that works better for me than anythign else I've found so far, but at the end of the day, it's just perfume and the people who complain about having trouble meeting their car payments and then turn around and buy imps and bottle make me nervous.

[identity profile] maxineofarc.livejournal.com 2006-10-25 02:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm terribly put out that I'm without a source of income during the Halloween/Yule updates, but at least I'm not going out and buying them up anyway. And the folks who sell bottles insisting that every penny of the price is going "back to the Lab?" ...dude, it's your money. I don't care what you spend it on.

All of which is probably why I don't hang out on the forums anymore. I'm no fun at all.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-10-27 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
What bottles were you interested in? I sold WHite Moon and Brides of Dracula. The two available ones are Kindly Moon and Dr. John Seward. (I've got someone else who offered to take Kindly Moon if I'd wait until I got back, but since you put in the claim first, if it's one you want, I'll hold it for you. :)

[identity profile] dragovianknight.livejournal.com 2006-10-27 05:53 am (UTC)(link)
It was Dr. John Seward I wanted, so if he hasn't been claimed, I'll take him when you get back. :)

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-10-27 05:56 am (UTC)(link)
Woo-hoo, perfect! :D

If I don't contact you, remind me. :) I get back to my apartment on Monday the 6th.
