My headache is not completely gone, but three Advil made it recede enough that I declare it Not A Migraine, but just a very bad headache.

It would be tolerable if the elephant who lived above me was not going STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP STOMP.

I think I'll go to the library.

You too? The idiots above me are doing the same. *screams*

When I first moved in, there was a troupe of clog-dancing elephants above me. They moved out - after leaving their yappy dog locked in their bathroom for four days until I called the office and complained that I was worried about it plus it started YAPYAPYAPYAP every time it heard any sound from my apartment whatsoever. Their replacement was very nice and quiet. I hardly knew he was there. This guy is mostly quiet. He used to, regularly on Saturday early afternoon, engange in some sort of activity, exactly what I care not to speculate, in his living room that caused loud rhythmic squeaking and thumping. Until one day it got so loud it scared the cat and drove her into the closet, and I grabbed a broom and thumped the handle loudly against my ceiling. The thumping and squeaking died out shortly and has not returned.

Today, it's not rhythmic, it's just STOMP THUMP STOMP THUMP. I cherish hopes that it's because he's packing to move, but he may just be rearranging the living room or something.

When I moved in here, the flat above me was empty. The two women who moved in later were quiet for the most part, but then suddenly they started having their kids visiting on weekends, and there was lots of trampling. I asked them to keep it quiet a few times, but no... And now one or both of them have taken to stomping around in the evening for no apparent reason. GAH. STOMP STOMP STOMP BANG! - - STOMP BANG - - STOMP STOMP STOMP - - BANG STOMP BANG...

God, I wish they were moving out.

Ouch. Sympathies about your elephant.

...Part of it, I think, is just the nature of apartment ceilings. Unfortunately. Even when my upstairs neighbors were quiet, I could still hear the bedsprings when they had sex, and the insanely persistent knocking on their door in the morning (no idea why).

Now I live in an upstairs apartment and worry that *I'm* probably the elephant. I don't stomp, but maybe it's audible anyway when I walk around (specially at 3am). DDR seems so unwise I've given it up altogether.

(...On the other hand, the current downstairs neighbor has very long, very audible phone conversations almost nightly, involving either emotional meltdowns or frequent exclamations of "OH MY GOD!" This lessens my concern for her delicate sensibilities a bit.)

Yeah, part of it. For the most part, normal everyday moving about doesn't register on the ceiling - the guy before the guy today was so quiet I never heard anything except the occasional strange whirring whine like a dentist's drill. And I never hear voices, which is good. My friend in Houston knows from long, sleepless nights that the woman of the couple who live above him is a screamer. :)

I can occasionally hear my next-door neighbor's Yorkie, but only when he's at the door and hears someone coming up to our doors. Other than that either he's quiet or there's more insulation between our walls elsewhere.

I was lucky in some respects that my old apartment was a townhouse style (no one above or below) AND that I had an end unit. Further, the way the apartments were designed, there were only three common walls. One was the kitchen and one was the stairwell, but unfortunately the third was the master (my) bedroom.

I was there 8.5 years and had at least four different next door neighbors during that time. The married couples were the quietest. The worst was a single mom who had a lot of weekend sex (when her child was off visiting dad) - lots of bed squeaking and thumping, but no vocals, luckily.

Been in a downstairs apartment now for a little over a month - don't really hear any of the neighbors except for the big dog next door. Hopefully we aren't too noisy, but even if we are, our offer on a house was accepted today and we will be out by the end of the month!!
