Yes, I am a computer guru. One of the Circ computers up front went wonky and I have earned the undying admiration, gratitude, and overwhelming awe of the Circ people and solidly established my guru credentials by fixing it.

I rebooted the computer.

It's amazing how much credit people will give you for something like that. :D Not quite as simple as a previous job where I was acclaimed the guru for removing a page break.* I still have no idea why the computer refused to run the catalog program, but I am eyeballing the new barcode scanners with deep suspicion.

* To my credit, it was in an early version of Word and it was a remarkably, bizarrely persistent page break that had resisted the efforts of many a questing knight, and indeed took me some time to puzzle out the innards of the formatting codes and slay the beast.

I had an audio tape player that stopped working: Pressing Play did nothing. I told a friend, hey, you want it, it's yours. So he pressed Rewind, then Play, which worked. Uh, oh. I forget if I backed off and said I wanted it after all, or said, well, I don't play tapes anymore anyway, so go ahead and take it. Either way, I know I felt stupid.

That's kind of like knowing the keyboard shortcuts for Microsoft Office. I've earned the rep of being a Microsoft master just from showing someone Alt+A, Alt+C, Alt+V, and Alt+F. Just think - in a couple years when all those young "whipper-snappers" come into the professional world, how un-guru we will all look.
