Circuit Rider

The guy I've been working on for the past few days is done!

I think his name may be Zedekiah. It means something like 'justice of the Lord,' which seems appropriate. The hair ain't perfect, but considering that I haven't painted very good hair, it's one of the best ones I've done so far, so I'm happy with it. :D

For those who haven't been reading my previous posts under friendslock, or those who have just wandered through, this was done for [livejournal.com profile] dragonscholar's current contest over at Seventh Sanctum. You create a character using one of his generators, and illustrate it. The description I ended up with was:

This holy man never walks away from a fight. His haunted eyes are apple-green. His luxuriant hair is the color of blooming violets. He has full lips.

The version for the contest is up over at DA, in case you're insterested in knowing how he looks with anime-colored hair.

omg that is fantastic. I love the eye.

Like this very much. The sepia-and-red color scheme is very effective. The hair is fantastic, and I love the etching on the holder strapped to his thigh. Very nice!

He is badass and sparkly too!

Quite like the hair, actually. The waist is a little weird, but it may be the gun/bottom-up perspective throwing me off.
But the hair is win.

You know, I hadn't realized it before now but your Zedekiah reminds me of Ivan Isaacs from Priest.

I second the opinion about the eye!

I LOVE the detail on the gun holster. You've done such a beautiful job on this... I hope you win the contest!

I like this one better than the contest entry - both are great, but the color of the hair picks up the gold cross on the bible. The sparks are a great touch. :D

I can only imagine how much scripture he can quote. XD; Lovely job!

Very spiffy!!!

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-02-20 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you! :D

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-02-20 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
The holster decorations were a spur-of-the-moment thing, but added so much to it. Thanks!

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-02-20 04:17 am (UTC)(link)
Yup! XD

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-02-20 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, the torso is a little bit off - I used a pose from a pose book with a mand standing with his hips canted way over, and the original sketch was OK, but then I had to move his hips down, because his proportions were starting to get off, and I think it threw his torso a wee bit out of whack. But let's hear it for all-concealing brown dusters!

Priest and Jonah Hex: Two-Gun Mojo are the two things that, if I decide to develop him and his world more, I'm going to have to strive to avoid, and he will be compared to them ad infinitum.

But Jonah Hex is better - not only because it was written by Joe Lansdale, but because I was able to get through that and even enjoy it, while I never made it past the first book of Priest. :D

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-02-20 04:21 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you! :D

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-02-20 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, he's just reeeeeally not an anime character. I was thinking of ways to add texture to it, and since I ahd a flamelike background, they sort of fit in naturally. :)

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-02-20 04:23 am (UTC)(link)
XD Probably has the entire Bible memorized and doens't even need the book itself to quote at you. Thanks!

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-02-20 04:23 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you!

[identity profile] heyoka.livejournal.com 2006-02-20 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, that is awesome! Man, I want a comic about him now, or something. Eheh.

[identity profile] wordsofastory.livejournal.com 2006-02-20 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, great job. I love the sparks.

And yeah, I like the blond hair better than the violet.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-02-20 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
Hell, *I* want to read a comic about him. He's not very forthcoming about himself - all I know is that he doens't fight zombies, because Priest and Jonah Hex fight zombies.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-02-20 04:35 am (UTC)(link)
THanks! Yeah, it was fairly obvious pretty early on that he wasn't a purple-haired guy. But thanks to the Miracle of Digital Art, he can put in a temporary rinse when necessary!

[identity profile] selenite.livejournal.com 2006-02-20 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
Great picture. Looks like he'd fit right in to a Firefly game, too.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-02-20 04:45 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you! :D

[identity profile] heyoka.livejournal.com 2006-02-20 04:56 am (UTC)(link)
I imagine men talking about him at the saloon, and someone makes a crack about the long hair and "pretty" green eyes, and one of the older men remarks that however pretty he thinks those eyes are, he don't ever want to see them over the barrel of a six-shooter. "Them's the devil's eyes."

...aheheh I'll hush now.
