Note to self:

...remember to check Netflix discs as soon as they arrive, so as not to have a disc for a week and then decide to watch it and find it's cracked. ARG

This happened twice in fairly near succession, and I'm entertaining the possibility that I'm accidentally not seating it right in my DVD player, but I dunno - I popped a DVD I don't care about in and out several times, but since I was thinking about it, of coruse I was putting it in carefully. Arg.

I have had netflix for two years and I have only had three cracked and one that had a deep scratch that didn't effect the movie till two thirds through......

My only complaint is how long it is taking for them to receive the movies.

This is about the fifth time it's happened in about a year and a half. I need to remember to check the disc before putting it in to rule out the possibility that I'm popping it into the player offset and that's breaking it.

I've only been signed up half a year and I've already received two cracked discs. It makes Z sad!

I wish they would credit an account for the time it takes between mailing a broken disc and receiving another new one :( I feel like I'm losing money in transit.

Yeah. I've got the 3-disc subscription, and it always seem to happen with the third disc I'm planning to watch, so I have a long time without new DVDs. ;_;

I find when the disk is cracked it's usually anime. I think the peeps before me abused the hell out of the disk.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-01-16 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
It's often anime, but since I rent a lot of anime ... well, natural. This time it was the Muppet Show disc I. *cries*

A fourth of my "Great Teacher Onizuka" DVDs arrived broken or not at all. Perhaps someone at Netflix was not a fan.

My cracked discs have all been anime too. Geeze.

Netflix does have a page to report problems, and when you report a broken disc the next disc in your queue gets moved to Shipping to replace it immediately; you don't have to mail the broken disc back first. Unless that's not what you're talking about.

In the past 2 months it's happened with FMA, Inu-Yasha, and now the Muppet Show, but I don't remember beyond that.

Generally, I get my disc the next day they report it shipped. The first time I had a damaged disc, they waited almost a week to send me the replacement even after they'd received the damage disc. I wonder if it was just a first-time thing.

Do gleeful otaku use the discs as frisbees and then mail them back or something?

Perhaps they thought you were stretching their profit margins with discs. I rented and returned movies often enough and in enough quantity that I became unprofitable for Netflix, and so I don't receive my discs as quickly or have as great of queue-priority as a new or less speedy member.

I think maybe they fold them in half to fit into the letter slot.

My Saiyuki Reload Disc 1 and Chobits Disc 2 were damaged, in the past month. I was pissed about the Chobits one because I hurried to watch the first one and mail it in, but they never received it, so I reported it missing (they said to wait 6 days before doing that, but when I mail them, Netflix gets them the next day or the day after, and I wanted the disc before I went back to school!). And then Disc 2 was broken.

Both of them did the thing where the menu works, but you can't go to any of the episodes, at least on my computer player. I tried them on the regular DVD player, and it said "Can't play dirty or damaged disk."

I've rarely had problems with the Netflix DVDs, so it's weird. But I've definitely decided to do the "check as soon as they arrive" thing as well.
