Mangatalk: Covers, part 2

A quick-and-dirty experiment on a couple of covers from the previous post. You'll want to read that post first for this to make sense.



I did one simple thing in each of these two to draw attention to one character's face. I think it makes them each slightly better, because there's a more obvious focal point.

I know darkening eyes like I did with Kamichama Karin tends to take away from the concept of the image and the character as being all soft, but it makes it easier to grab the eye when it's being quickly skimmed over, I think. Maybe taking the darker blue of the background all the way to the outlines of the head isntead of putting a veil on her would have done the same thing.

ETA: The eyes of the character on Ark Angels are much darker on the book than they look in the Amazon picture, although the graphic design still isn't quite as striking as in the top 5 books. (P.S. I don't really recommend the book, except for "OMG they did that??" stuff. Petshop of Horrors did teh animals-as-humanlike-characters thing better. XD)
