Antici....

Waiting on tenterhooks. I've got three things arriving from BPAL this week, am eagerly awaiting my fandom holiday card,* and am waiting for the recipient of the one I sent to post to this post on [livejournal.com profile] fandomcards so I can see if they like it.**

And I got a chunk o'change from the grandparents for Christmas, and a level-headed, sensible, adult would use it to pay bills or put towrds the credit card or something, but ... there's a Nikon digital SLR camera body calling my name... I just need the body, since I own two Nikon lenses for my 35mm camera, and while I lust for the 8 and 10 megapixel ones, in all honesty there's no way I can justify $1K+ on a digital camera. But this would go a looooong way towards that particular camera body...

* If whoever's sending it to me is reading this and hasn't sent it yet, my birthday is Dec 29th and that's JUST AS GOOD as Christmas. *significant look*

** Not that hard to figure out who sent it, however, for Reasons that will Become Clear Later. It went out by priority mail Thursday night, so should have gottent ehre Saturday or Monday, although I know things slow down at Christmastime.

Can I post here too since I recognized the return address? LOVE! You made my week. I showed L to my brother so someone else could share my "damn, she drew that?" reaction. Thank you so much!

XDDD I got the assignment and I could do any of the three you picked, and I decided it was just way too cool to get something from Morrolan.

I didn't recognize your name & address, and figured whoever it was wasn't on my friendslist and posted asking if anyone knew anything about the Dragaera series so I could toss about ideas, and then ... I got a card in the mail ... from the same address ... about Project Blue Rose, and figured that there was a pretty good chance you were someone on the friendslist. *Then* I got to worry if you'd seen the post and realized what it was about. XD

I tried to pick people who had fairly distinct voices. You picked my first choice too. I've had a fictional crush on Morrolan from the moment I started reading Brust. When I opened your card, it was like Christmas had come early. :)

I did wonder if you'd gotten mine, since you mentioned earlier too that you put Death Note as one of your fandom options. I wasn't sure though.

You wouldn't believe all the work to figure out what I was going to do ... the invitation thing came to me out of the blue on the way home from the grocery store. And I found reference in Sethra Lavode to him sending invitations written in gold ink on black silk and ... well, I've got a gold paint marker, but Morrolan would Not Be Amused if I attempted to pass off my awful handwriting as his, so the printer it was. But I got to look up the pamphlet stitch (http://www.enchantedink.com/projects/class18.htm) for bookbinding, so it was all good. (And let me know if the black paper's holding up - I put the tape along the spine because the thread was threatening to rip it.)

Is there anyone who doesn't have a fictional crush on Morrolan? *shifty look*

* And while I love my fictional boyfriend L to death, I think coming up with something he'd write for Christmas would be a thousand million times harder than Morrolan - "There is a 96.8% chance you will have a merry Christmas and a 38.2% chance your uncle Bob will drink too much eggnog after dinner and start singing songs he learned when he was in the Navy before throwing up in the poinsettia"?

It looks fabulous. I keep opening it up and re-reading it because it is just that cool. And the paper's holding up fine. :)

The friend who introduced me to Brust doesn't. She likes Vlad and gave me a Look when I said Morrolan was teh sexy. Something is clearly wrong with her.

[identity profile] fourthage.livejournal.com 2005-12-21 03:35 am (UTC)(link)
Hee! Yeah, L is so socially inept that anything resembling a regular Christmas card would be a bit out of his range.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-12-21 04:03 am (UTC)(link)
Good. :)

What? Heretic! She must have been befuzzled by Vlad's mustache.

[identity profile] fourthage.livejournal.com 2005-12-21 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
*snerk* On the other hand, she has a girlfriend, so maybe I should be discussing Aliera and Kiera with her instead.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-12-21 05:56 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah. Because Vlad's so much girlier than Morrolan. XD Nah, you've got a point there.

That is the camera I would like. I don't have any lenses though, so I'm looking at buying it in a two lense package. We should have the money together to buy it early in the year, so I'll have time to play with it before I leave for my trip in the summer.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-12-22 03:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I poked around the net yesterday, and found reviews by this guy (http://www.kenrockwell.com/index.htm). I emailed him to let him know of a link that was typoed, and mentioned that I was making the jump to a digital SLR, so his reviews were coming in handy, and he replied, saying "If money matters and you just want great shots get a D50. THere is little different about the other cameras except that they weigh and cost more. Picture quality is all the same."

So that's that - someone who knows what they're talking about has told me what to get, and it's the least expensive one. It's a plus all around. XD

[identity profile] puppleball.livejournal.com 2005-12-22 06:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I've been on that site before. I really do like his reviews and they were the main thing that convinced me the D50 would be the one I wanted. It was a toss up between that and the rebel. The review, price and the fact it takes an SD card are what did it. Now I have to actually buy it.

I need to get my grandparents' check into my bank account first, which is what's currently stopping me. :D If I do that, though, I could order it from www.bhphotovideo.com* this weekend and have it waiting for me when I got home from Mom's...

* We used them at A&M in the slide collection and I've bought photgraphy equipment online from them and never had a problem, so I tend to stick with them. XD
