This is from a meme in fandom_lounge over on JournalFen -- post your top twenty books. This is the list I posted. Of course we're all interpreting "top twenty" and "books" as liberally as possible under the circumstances to be able to shove comics and series in, but hey.

No particular order, again. These are mostly books I keep coming back to, like old friends.

1) Tales of the Flat Earth Tanith Lee (Yes I know it's five books, dammit, leave me alone!)
2) Blade of the Immortal Hiroaki Samura
3) Transmetropolitan
4) Lord of the Rings
5) Alan Mendohlson, the Boy from Mars Daniel Pinkwater
6) Gaudy Night Dorothy L. Sayers
7) Steven Brusts's Jhereg books (what? no, I'm not going to pick one!)
8) Lois McMaster Bujold's Vorkosigan series
9) The Book of the New Sun, all four volumes, by Gene Wolfe
10) The Black Company series by Glen Cook
11) Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass
12) the Green Knowe series by L. M. Boston
13) the Mary Poppins series by P.L. Travers
14) The Hitchhikers' Guide to the Galaxy
15) Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones (I can't wait for the Miyazaki movie!)
16) Road Fever by Tim Cahill
17) The Global Soul by Pico Iyer
18) Cotillion Georgette Heyer
19) Harry Potter
20) The Compleat Traveller in Black by John Brunner

Ask me again next week and these will ahve completely changed, of course.

Of course after I posted that, I poked through the other peoples' lists and kept running across books that I was all "How could I have forgotten that one/s?" Like Barry Hughart's Bridge of Birds and sequels. And Pat O'Shea's The Hounds of the Morrigan. And Tove Jansson's Moomin series? There are just so many others, too...
