Sourdough starter
Project for Wild Sourdough, a citizen-science enterprise. Disclaimer: while I welcome your comments and observations, I won't be following any suggestions until after the 2 weeks (or 14 feedings, whichever comes first) because I need to follow the protocol that the project calls for.
Feeding 4
Nowhere near as much action as yesterday and the day before. In fact, there was pretty much no action with the whole wheat starter. It had almost no smell other than wheat. Some bubbles, height much the same as yesterday, a bit of clear liquid on top. Hm. Hope it's not dead. No idea what would have caused it, if so.
The white was also much the same height as yesterday after I'd discarded a tablespoon's worth, with some bubbles. No giant surge in activity as there was yesterday. However, the odor modulated: yesterday evening it was already moving from gross stinky cheese to just plain stinky cheese. Today it's still very cheesy, but starting to move out of the stinky area and more into Parmesan.
If I remember after dinner I might bung 'em in the oven overnight with the oven light on (and a note taped to the knob) because we keep it kind of cold overnight (thank you hot flashes), and whatever beasties are in there would probably appreciate it a bit warmer.
